Mad at a God you don't believe exists ..?

i guess i'm posting this observation here because it seems like it would be 'safer'.. i can understand there are those who have gone through hard times, and frankly none of us is blind to human suffering in this world.. but when i hear someone who says they don't believe in god, then proceeds to say god is cruel for allowing people to suffer and so on, i guess my logical left-brained "male" tendancy kicks in and it just doesn't make sense to me.

i mean really, you can only be mad at someone you believe exists.

technically, it seems like that doesn't even fit into the agnostic category, because that's just people who don't think you can know right?

no, i haven't found any.

however, a certain poster on this board made the above reference in a post supporting the "great deluge".. it took me back to a public talk i heard 20 odd years ago by a visiting elder who i later learned imported and resold all sorts of books from the us about the bible, creationism and even about jw's.

he was a very good speaker and freely admitted when he wandered away from the outline and was adding some tidbits he had discovered.

My question, where did this story come from? Are there several similar creationist stories going around? If this is true where is the silver chain?

.. maybe it's what the girl on the Titanic was wearing? Actually I do wonder about the flood legends. Maybe this is a stupid question, and I certainly haven't researched this at all, but there are supposed to be flood legends across different cultures and civilizations. I'm just thinking you might not interpret some of the stuff literally, I'm kind of curious as to whether there are alternative hypotheses about what actually happend.. DNA samples of all the animals in a high tech vessel..??

Nature/nurture in homosexuality

i wanted to ask the gay and lesbian members of the board about the whole nature and nurture issue with homosexuality.

i suppose when you're looking at things this way it's usually a matter of how the two interact, and not so much that it's x% or all of one or the other.

but i guess some practical questions are, did you become gay or was it a matter of realizing you were gay all your life?

Do you think it's ever a choice with some homosexuals, rather than, well frankly it being something you have no choice over? Thanks in advance for your response.

BTW, those who has an opinion on homosexuality being immoral and the like, that's really not what this thread is about. I think this is a legitimate question to consider regardless of one's opinion on the matter. Of course, you can post your opinion to this thread anyway, but it just wouldn't add to the subject under consideration.

I don't think I can really answer those questions since I've been inactive for a few years. Of course, taking a guess is usually better than not answering on multiple choice questions because you atleast have a chance of getting it right, but I'm guessing it's not exactly graded that way here..

Are These the Last Days?

does anyone who has left the organisation still feel that these are the last days?

all down through history people have wanted to feel that they live in special times - are jws just an extension of this?

for me the biggest problem with this theory of the last days has been the distinct lack of earthquakes since 1914, a quote from the book signs of the times revisited says "as more and more seismographs are installed in the world, more earthquakes can be and have been located.

i know its a very popular question but wat is the real answer to "if god is so mighty can he make a rock so big even he cant lift it"

The concept is pretty straight forward I think, whether you believe it or not. Infinity is infinity, you can't exceed that which does not have limits. In a way though it is a limit, to say that God cannot make something so big that he can't lift it, kind of like the scripture where it says God cannot lie. Of course, why would God care to make a rock like that in the first place or lift it? Where is that a popular question anyway..?

First Meeting

i went to my first jw meeting, there were actually two but i only stayed for the first one.

it was actually kind of fun.

there was role play and that was funny, everyone was laughing and people were soooooo nice in fact most new who i was already.

Tattoo, it's good that you're considering things carefully. I think this boils down to one simple thing: The people may be nice, (believe me, we've all been there) but you're talking about joining a religion. It isn't just a matter of getting along with people. There would be no problem for you to keep studying, but that doesn't mean you'd have to do anything you don't want to do or believe anything you don't think is reasonable. Key doctrinal issues regarding Jehovah's Witnesses' beliefs are discussed here on a regular basis, most of it in the Main board. Consider what people have to say on these issues.
