A prisoner of guilt. Doesn't feel like he lives up to the WT standards, so he blames himself instead of them. Sad story -

just a question
by poopie inwhat percentage would you say of all jehovah's witnesses really 100 percent follow the shunning decree to the letter just answer with a percent thank you

I think that the percentage that follow varies with the race. Just like what Sofia says with the Hispanics, Blacks don't follow it as much. Especially with family members. My older brother was D'fed over 20 years ago and the JW that knew him will still say hi and talk briefly with him. He is a Barber and he cut a lot of the "brothers" hair over the years. Even a few of the elders that were around the time of him being D'fed, have talked to him a lot. Guess time kinda looses some rules foe them. I've been around other black JW families and I've seen how they do too. Keep one face for the D'fed person in public but change in private. I think the white JW are more strict with the WT rules from what I've seen, going from a All black hall to predominantly white hall. In general, I will give it 90% adherence -

Who REALLY believed in the idea of living forever on earth??
by stuckinarut2 inseriously.....even when you were 100% in "the truth", did you really believe in living forever?
?

I look back on it. I don't think I ever truly believed. I was skeptical of the whole ideal of living FOREVER, since there is no measurement of infinity. A Neverending story would create problems for it's characters. What would a person want to accomplish after 300 million years? Better yet, What more could a person do and love doing for forever? For Jehovah, what would he have up his sleeve in that world? Would there be another test or rebellious angel?
Those were some of the questions that plagued my mind but I was too afraid to keep thinking about them or ask fellow JW. The stop-think tactic, "Wait on Jehovah" would always be the reply.

God's Inception Style Punishment of Toddlers
by Simon inthis is a follow up to jehovah kicks a puppy about the garden of eden / serpent myth and the punishment for disobeying god.. anyone who has had kids knows that that they need to be taught what is right and what is wrong.
it's no point trying to discipline them if they have't learnt the rules first - they simply and fundamentally don't know something is wrong so punishing them in anyway is just asshole parenting of the worst kind.. i.e.
toddlers draw on the wall, that's what they do.

The thing that makes it worse, is the punishment and death of Adam and Eve's children. Punishment for those that had NOTHING to do with their parents decision process -

Going further with the consequence of disobeying God. How would they know what Death is? -

Jehovah kicks a puppy
by Simon intechnically incorrect, but effectively he does .... if we're to believe the genesis account the serpent deceived eve and made her eat of the tree of knowledge.
it all went pear shaped from there on in, although most people believe it was an apple (boom tish).. but anyway .... either it was a literal serpent that could talk on it's own behalf or, as people typically believe, it was satan who was the puppet master and possessing the creature.. the first raises all sorts of questions that contradict the whole bible narrative (another creature that could reason, talk, debate existence and law etc...) so let's go with "the satan theory".. how does got react to his 'perfect' creation immediately being completely imperfect as soon as he takes it out of the box?
(he's like 0 for 4 ... satan, serpent, woman, man ... all break his rules).

That Genesis account was the beginning of the awakening for me. Never made any sense as a Believer. Why would God (if he exists) punish the victims immediately and give the perpetrator a delayed sentence? That's like a Judge giving Charles Manson probation indefinitely but at some time in the future, the Judge will give him capital punishment. In the mean time, all the victims have to pay a large debt to the state for their life. Would be BS! Just like that Genesis story

Endure! Life is hard! Lost? We are Miserable ? Don't think so
by ducatijoe inits a rainy day and have been reading posts.. i would like to respond to the comments of those still in, post to those who have decided to leave.. what ever you have been told or may think about what will happen without "the truth" , is not true.
my life without the wbts is fantastic.
no stress, live in a beautiful place, great new friends and total peace of mind.

Thanks for the words @ducatijoe I need this. I do get depressed sometimes, thinking about the time spent being a JW. I can't stop the memories, since they can be triggered just by a certain subject or seeing a building/location. I'm happy to be less stressed and things have gotten a little better. I have my own place to feel free to think and not worry about seeing a JW I used to know.

How do stop myself getting too Bitter?
by stuckinarut2 inyou know, i always maintained that during this fading process, and while learning ttatt, i would not let myself get "bitter twisted and angry".... but, in all honesty, if i examine myself, i have become quite bitter toward the org, toward the false friends and the gb.. i have become angry as i see the extent of damage i feel being raised in "the truth" has done.... i feel hurt towards the lost opportunities in life etc.... how do i not allow myself to get too swallowed up by such bitterness?.
i have always been a very happy, positive, selfless person.
i can put people at ease, i am someone people feel comfortable chatting to.

If you don't have anger or resentment because of a experience of mistreatment or being taken advantage of.....you're not human. Since this is not the case, don't ask yourself how can you not be bitter but what can you learn from it? -

Having Faith in the Bible
by william draper ini know many on here have lost faith in the bible , is it possible that is because ones do not have the right perspective regarding it .
we have usually been taught by bad teachers , or ignorant .
i believe if we take an honest look at the bible , we will see that it gives us the best answers to crucial matters , it gives us some amount of bearings ( understanding ) , which without having such knowledge we would all be more like walking zombies in amanner of speaking , we would be lacking hope in something better , for surely something better is to come , how can we be sure , .

This analogy is used frequently:
The Bible is like a Sandwich, where people pick and choose what they want or don't want on it.
The foundation (bread) may stay the same but depending on a person's preference of what taste good to them....The food items between the bread can change. Just like with the bible or you can say any holy book. Depending on the person, scriptures can be discarded or have a sauce put on them to make it easier to accept. Factor in that there are people that don't like to eat Sandwiches at all. They do like food of course, but just not that type.
All in a figurative sense

@Simon I know places open to the Public have rules and regulations for people to abide by. I meant to say that there are risks in a place being open for the public. Not everybody will want to be peaceful in those environments. I've done security at hotels, places that open to the public, and you get all kind of lunatics that come in there. If you try to get help legally....it's a pain in the a**. Law enforcement don't want to help with these situations. From my experience, it really has to be a serious threat to someone's safety. Even then, getting a restraining order and going to court over it is time consuming. I remember the Director of Security at the hotel I was at; he tried to get a restraining order for a crazy homeless man that liked to hang around the hotel. The guy would bother guests for cigarettes, sleep on the planters and take sh**s on there daily. We couldn't get him away. LAPD wouldn't do anything but take him away and let him go a few days later. The guy would just come back and do the same sh**. Even when he threatened security, nothing was done. That's for a homeless man. A man with nothing to lose don't care what you can do to him. Anyways, that's how it is where I'm at in California.
