  I made it!

  at the time i went to school jehovahs witnesses were still discouraged from higher education.

  the teachers on the primary school advised me to go follow pre-university education.

  but totally in line with the watchtower i followed

  Congratulations on your exams and your educational plans!

  I went off to college at 18 (couldn't pass up the offer from an Ivy League school) and foundered because deep down inside I just knew I was going against god...ugh.

  I started back parttime in Fall of '97 and just graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Psychology (apropos ;)) in May.

  I'm 39 now, and still looking forward to atleast an MSW so I can get licensed to counsel.

  It's never too late!!

  Good luck to all of you starting and congrats to those who have finished!

  JWs and Stronger Marriages?

  a bit of a follow on from the "honesty" thread.. another claim that jws make is that they have stronger marriages and are less likely to divorce.. try writing down all the jw couples that you know of that have divorced.. there are bonus points for those who didnt make 2yrs!.

  i think you will be shocked at the number you can come up with.

  we came up with 60 couples in less than 20mins.

  JWs at my door....return visit tomorrow

  i just had two nice jw women knock on my door...i invited them in and listened to their brief presentation and accepted the watchtower and awake.

  they couldn't stay(had a bible study they had to go on)so they said they will be back tomorrow...i am playing the naive daughter of jw parents of whom i have had debates with in regards to jw doctrines...that way i don't seem to be totally oblivious to their teachings, yet not an "evil apostate"!.

  i was taken off guard, so i am glad they are coming back....any suggestions on how to approach these two women without blowing my cover?

  Why do Evangelical Christians support Israel?

  i was listening to npr on the way home from work and they said that most evangelical christians strongly support israel.

  is it true that they still understand the jews as god's "chosen people".

  i thought they took jesus' words literally, that god had abandoned them collectively once they rejected jesus (i could be dead wrong here).

  There is even a whole book dedicated to Pastor Charles Taze Russell: an early American Zionist (??), by Miskovitz (??)--sorry, it's been about two years since I checked it out of the public library.

  It was amazing to read page after page of adulation for Pastor Russell and his unequivocal stand on the Zionist purpose.

  This is one of the main teachings that Booze Rutherford turned into 'the teachings of demons.' It sure is a shame that he died of rectal cancer and liver failure....

  My sister-in-law disowns my kids

  last night my sister-in-law asked my kids why they haven't been attending meetings.

  she cornered them individually.

  she asked my son and he said no he has not been attending meetings and that he has been doing some research and that he didn't believe it was the truth.

  Oh yeah, when it all gets nutty, just meditate on the image of 7 or 8 wrinkled old fools strapped to their hospice beds at Patterson, bellies full of ensure, respirators emitting a restful hum-thump-fooo, hum-thump-fooo....

  You know, if they had sent a few young thugs to school for science instead of sending them all to law school, they could at least be trying to clone the lyrical Freddie Franz...then they might have some new study material.

  there is going to be a press conference and candle light vigil for silent lambs in kentucky a week from tomorrow, the 24th.

  that isnt too far from our neck of the woods.

  i am planning on going.
