Oh I have one more, once I refused to take gas money from a 70 year old sister who was just scrapping by. After she left my car, an elder in my cong told me off for not taking it. He said we should always accept gas money even if we don't need it, because it encourages them to keep giving, and there are those in the cong that depend on donated gas money. The problem is, at least in this cong it was, that it was only the poor ones that kept offering.

What silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?
by 3Mozzies inso what silly things have you been counselled on or simply been told off for?.
back in my early 20's, i had a pair of comfy old jeans that started to tear in about 3 places on the leg.
it was the fashion at the time so not only did they feel great to wear, they also looked 'in', not that i cared for that, but it was a bonus .

In the 80's they took the microphones away from me because I was growing a mullet. That alone proves they are directed by holy spirit, because they knew mullets were wrong before anyone else did.

The WTS hates new technology because everytime the world upgrades something, it means they have to spend thousands of dollars upgrading their material. The World invents VCR's, the WTS has to make videos to keep up, the world invents dvd's, mp3, high resolution tv's, and they have to keep up, otherwise none of the younger crowds will touch their stuff. And this costs them $$$

Abuse of Authority and Tax Exemptions in the WT Organization
by OnTheWayOut ini will relay this as hearsay as i was not personally involved, but perhaps some of you can personally attest to such abuses for the apologists out there.. even this "hearsay" was verified by another person who was involved to some extent.. this spanish former elder told a two-fold story about abuse of authority and abuse of the tax exemption that wts has.. tax exemption- his story was about how, in the building of an assembly hall in illinois, the people in charge of various portions of the project bought materials and automobiles with the tax exemption number given to them.
among their materials and automobiles were materials and automobiles for their home and personal use.
he then went on to describe the situation a double kingdom hall with six spanish congregations found itself in.

This story sounds awfully familiar, I know I've read this somewhere before. I've been on so many websites though, I'd never be able to recall.
OTWO- How long ago did this happen?

I threw out a lot of magazines, and always felt guilty that I didn't recycle. Our recycling bin is open and I was paranoid that the JW's in service would see them in there.

My wife has asked me to tone it down
by JWinprotest inlately i've been making a lot of negative comments about the wts at family gatherings, trying to plant seeds of doubt whenever i can.
but my wife thinks i'm going overboard and starting to raise suspicion.
we had a huge argument last night because i told her i'd rather not go to the gatherings at all than to stay quiet.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I know deep down that the right thing to do is to let things go, and I've decided to do that, not because I'm noble, because I'm not, I'm confrontational by nature. I've decided not to discuss things related to the WTS again because members of my family that are still in are completey oblivious to most of the issues and controversies that I bring up, and so they honestly believe I'm making it up. Even by witness standards they really do not know their stuff.
For example, this whole thing came to a boil about a week ago at my In-laws home. My wife's sister was going on and on about how wonderful this year's District Convention was. She said it was so great that she actually attended it twice, just so she can really soak things in.(Exact phrase used)
So I asked her what she thought about the new teaching on generations. Her reply? "What new generation teaching?" Now I did not attend this year's DC, however, from what I've read here, this topic was discussed there. So I said,"you didn't hear the talk discussing the generations?" She said that yes she had heard it but nothing has changed, and it's the same as when they changed it in 95. In a very spirited fashion, I pointed out a few differences between the 95 teaching and the one that was revealed this year.
The conversations sort went south from there. I brought up the year 1975, and again, my sis in law was adamant that the society never put that year in print, that it was the rank and file that were over eager for the end.
Just a couple of examples, but I realize now that it really is futile, as many of you have suggested here, and I agree that it might be having the opposite effect. In the end, there is only one thing that I should be concerned about, which was very eliquently pointed out by notverylikely when he said,
I dunno, how cool are you with not getting laid?
nuff said!!!!

Lately I've been making a lot of negative comments about the WTS at family gatherings, trying to plant seeds of doubt whenever I can. But my wife thinks I'm going overboard and starting to raise suspicion. We had a huge argument last night because I told her I'd rather not go to the gatherings at all than to stay quiet. You see my rants are always instigated by someone overly praising the Society and the organization and how lucky they are to be a part of it, and it just does not sit well with me.
What is your opinion, should I let things go and keep peace, or do you think I should still throw the jabs every chance I get, in hopes that I can open the eyes of a loved one.

Did you ever have the Elders check out a prospective marriage mate 4U?
by Open mind inor, to your knowledge, did anyone ever make any inquiries of your local elders as to your "spiritual health" and suitability for courtship?.
how'd that work out for you?.

When I started dating my wife, an elder tried to convince me not to go through with it. His reasons? She was only baptized for a year, and her field service hours weren't at the level of the national average. Well we've been happily married for 12 years now,(even happier since we both realized the WTS is full of crap)
The other girl I was interested in at the time, who the same elder was encouraging me to pursue, is now serving in Africa with her husband.....the poor bastard. Talk about forks in the road of life huh!!!

Bible CONTRADICTIONS (Post Yours Here!) -- And Yahweh is a "Monster"!
by UnDisfellowshipped in"yahweh is a monster and the bible is full of contradictions!".
this is for all atheists, skeptics, believers, anyone to post the biggest contradictions that you believe are found in the bible, and also to tell about why you believe the god of the old testament (yahweh/jehovah) is a "monster" (as so many have said on this website in the past).. so this is a double-themed-thread!.
i want to see if i can provide good answers/solutions using logic and reasoning..

Anyone who would test someones loyalty by asking them to kill his own son, IMO is messed up. And everyone is ok with it because he didn't make him go through with. But if you were as loving as everyone portrays you to be, that thought would not even cross your mind. Not that I believe this fairy tale is true, but just imagine the pain and anguish Abraham would have felt on the way to the sacrifice. Loving my ass!!!!
