Parrot, we were married within 5 months. I didn't have enough time to commit fornication or be aware of nuttiness.

Weird stuff individuals believe
by bluecanary inthis thread doesn't just have to be about jws.
it's about the weird stuff that isn't taught by the religion, but an individual believes it.
my examples:.

My ex-husband (who believed a lot of nutty stuff) believed that the weather indicated Jehovah's approval or disapproval. He said it never rained on witness get-togethers. If it did, that meant Jehovah didn't approve of that party or the people hosting it.
It snowed on our wedding. Should I have taken that as a sign?

Regarding Quoting Scriptures All the Time
by AllTimeJeff inare you really thinking for yourself when you quote scriptures all the time as your personal answer?.
i bring this up for two reasons: first and foremost, it became almost a game in jw land, a competition to see who had the better (wt approved) passage when something came up.. almost always of course, if it was "of this world", well, we know the nwt in particular is full of how bad "the world" is.
can't be part of "this world") its bad!.

Stephen and Jeff, I just want to say how much I admire you guys for being able to debate a very controversial and personal subject --and still be so polite to one another. You are an inspiration to us all.

Saved or Sucked In? What are JW "bible studies" for?
by WuzLovesDubs inwhen you had a bible study with someone were you thinking:.
- im helping this person move towards baptism and get into the paradise like jehovah asked of me.
- im definitely going to get a part on the next assembly talking about this study and be a hot commodity with the sisters!.

I second what jamiebowers said. Which is why I think FS wasn't a complete waste of time. Only an almost complete waste of time. But it did have the benefit of providing comfort for a few who needed it such as elderly ones.
I did have the primary attitude of helping someone, but I confess I always wanted to be looked on favorably by others in the congregation. Not that it helped me much.

Could Watchtower Collapse Be Sooner Than You Think?
by metatron inthere have been a number of developments over the past few months and they paint an interesting picture.. witnesses can keep dragging themselves to meetings ad infinitum however, the future of the watchtower itself is another story.
the evidence of continuing cash flow problems is now overwhelming.
if you talk to well placed witnesses, most won't deny it but simply blame it on the publishers financial problems.. they have cut off loans to congregations many of whom genuinely need new kingdom halls.

neverendingjourney, I remember a convention about 10 years ago when a brother on the platform told us that anything with aliens was unsuitable for Christians. Aliens were an abomination and an affront to Jehovah's creations. I never heard or saw anything else about this again. Most of the elders in my hall at the time were Trekkies. We all just ignored it.

...A Doggie Day in Hell...
by OUTLAW inever have one of those days..when you go outside, and part of your dogs throat has been ripped out?...
that was the begining of my day... i have no idea what attacked him..whatever it was,was f*cking vicious!
!..there was a 2 inch hole of missing fur and skin on his neck.....and a severed artery......also a 2 inch hole of missing fur and skin on his leg.....and..another severed artery.....there was blood everywhere... the nearest vet is 1 1/2 hours away..i phoned in and told the doctor to be ready for me... i tied the dogs wounds up with tee-shirts to try to minimilize the bleeding..then put a 100 lb bleeding dog,in the back of the truck..........poor dog tried to stand up in the truck..his neck started to gush with blood..i got him to lie down..the bleeding slowed.....i jumped in the truck and drove..that was one long hour and a half... the doctor came out..looked at the dog,ran back in and brought out a stretcher..it took three of us to bring him in so he would`nt move around..that dog has spunk!..lol!!.

Seemingly random event.
by lurk3r inmany years ago, i worked on a jobsite in europe.
one day stands out in particular, and thought i would share it here and see if there might be any "explanation" to it.
a coincidence most likely.. .

Why I can see no reason to believe in Christianity
by free2beme inthose of us on this board, who live in the united states, know this country has a lot of christian history attached to it's founders and current political state of things.
if i look in the yellow pages, under christianity, in the church section and browse the listed selection; i will quickly notice that the large majority of options are christian based in one way or another.
with this said, more then likely you are working with christians, living next door to them or related to them in your life.
