by Bethelite Elder inwhen dan sydlik a member of the governing body whom i feel was a good man was living.
he heard all the cries from the bethelites about the hard rulership of lon schilling and len pearson.

Dan had the liberty and authority to teach the Gilead classes different views from Fred Franz. There were inner theological differences that worked their way up the chain of command.

Most history covers the period as: There were two military campaigns by the Babylonian army in the conquest of Judea. The first occured around 609-606 BCE when Babylon engaged the protectorate nations of Egypt and Assyria, Daniel was probably taken as a captive during this assault, Jerusalem survived another 20 years. The second is the well known 587/86 destruction of Jerusalem.

Rabbi Hillel, Rabbi Gaon and other teachers in the Second Temple era began to develop themes on Man and particularly a Jew as being in the image of God and an acceptance of the biological and spiritual role he plays- the Golden Mean.
Pro life, pro joy, the pholosophy distanced Jewish thought on man's place in the big scheme of things from fatalism. God calling on a human for a special task was considerred the highest of blessings: Son of Man
The 7th Benediction: 'Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has created joy and gladness, bridegroom and bride, mirth and exaltation, pleasure and delight, love, brotherhood, peace, and fellowship.'

Is the "torture stake" dogma a reverse idolatry in itself?
by JWoods inwitnesses have famously (and gleefully) tossed the usual christain "t" cross symbol overboard after having used it themselves for quite some time.
one common arguement is that "if christ had been shot by a rifle, you would not worship the image of the gun" -.
and yet, they do not shy away from insisting on the notion of the upright torture stake.

Rutherford's and Franz's idea was that the 144,000 functioned like the Levitical Priesthood in Israel. They had a unique covenant of their own, special meals and clothing etc.. They alone would officiate the Holy Sacriments, sprinkling blood etc. on the Day of Atonement and other festivals.
Very Catholic like in they way their priests function as go betweens to the laity. Luther opposed this and felt all believers were 'priests' much like most of Protestantism does today. The controversy was over texts from 1 Peter and Exodus. The Jews are described as all being 'priests' even though there was a tribe of Levi who were a distinct type of priest, double priests actually since they were priests in the general sense that all Jews were priests (meaning ones who live a holy life).
For Rutherford it was a way to elevate himself and a small clique of insiders over what came to be called the 'Rank and File'. There have been a few attempts over the years to abandoned this belief but it met with resistence from the Governing Body. I wrote several formal Papers on the subject to the Writing and Teaching departments over the years and got my head handed to me on a platter for my efforts...

Why do Christians want to be part of a religion that Jesus did not endorse?
by AK - Jeff inhe was a martyr.
he had wonderful moral teaching [if we can attribute it to him honestly].
he drew a crowd.. could have said any of that about ghandi.

In formal Catholic Theology there are some explicit discussions of God being inside Mary, not in the human way but the intimacy of the act is an interesting read.

If you study the dissenssions Martin Luther had with the Church of Rome over 'who is a priest' and Calvin's 'Limited Atonment' you can sort of get your head around Rutherford's teaching on Christ being the Mediator for only the 144,000. They functioned like the Levitical Priesthood for the rank and file 11 other tribes (other sheep).

Rasberry cordial, hickup!
The worse reactions we got were during the Vietnam War years from Right Wingers. People would bring their flags out and start singing the National Anthem, geeez.
Had a few Pentecostals start the whole speaking in tongues routine, that was always entertaining.
