i have read this board for a couple of years, and only began posting this past year.
i read some amazingly articulate questions and responses, and i admire the effort that people put into their posts.
with that in mind, how do you work out your posts?
I usually read all the posts above mine to see if anyone else has made a similar comment that I wanted to make, and if so, copy their post, put it in a quote box, type "Agreed" and then click Submit.
If the above does not apply then I just type what I feel. Then I re-read it for proper spelling and grammar. And then Submit. Usually takes about 1-5 minutes, depending on how much I want to (or can) say.
there is great debate regarding the matter of morals/ethics, and this particularly true whenever there is interaction between religiously driven portions of a culture, and those who maintain no religious opinion or even subscribe to atheism.
that cultural clash occurs often on this forum and others like it.. believers in god often attribute moral choices with godliness.
yet, among billions who have lived without any attachment to god in the particular sense that is often considered the driving influence [christianity, islam, judaism, or other organized religion] there have always been men and women whose 'moral character' is above reproach, even when measured with a black/white index of religious thought.. morality holds an arbitrary position among mankind.

This is basically a question of what came first, morals or a belief in God(s) that lead to a creation of morals.
For those that profess a belief in God, it can be argued that their sense of morality is influenced by that belief. For those that profess no belief in a higher being, it can be argued that their sense of morality is influenced by society. Though which came first is another matter.
this weekend at the circuit assembly, (i stayed home, thank goodness), i heard a nine year -old girl was baptized.
and she seems a bit mature for her age, but hardly mature enough,in my opinion, to make such a choice on her own.
it seems to be a trend in our circuit right now.

6 years old?? Why on earth would any organization allow a 6 year old CHILD to do this? They are barely able to read and write and go to the bathroom on their own!!! Why would his parents allow that? I can't think of any child under the age of 13 that would be able to make that kind of a lifelong decision. The parents must have been brainwashing these poor kids along with the WTS.

This is truly disturbing. I sang a new song for the first time this week (before seeing this thread) and I instantly felt like I was doing something wrong. It was just a weird feeling in my stomach and chest and I just couldn't even pretend to sing the words.
Now reading all the posts on this thread and seeing what the new songs are really saying...it just makes me sick. The WT study articles of late have been more blatantly promoting the worship of the GB as well, and it amazes me how few people even raise an eyebrow to these mind control methods.
four years ago today i walked out of the kingdon hall at 12.30pm knowing it would be the last time i would ever do so.. i haven't been back or considered going back since.. life in a divided family is a rocky road.. showing jehovahs witnesses that you can lead a fulfilling, happy life outside the circus that is their religion has been met (sadly) with opposition, slander & all the most bitter feelings that can ever come up into the heart of a person that practises the religion.. it's been worth it though.. freedom of thought & expression mean everything to me.. now my children are learning the same.
the religion has virtually no hold on them now.. life is good.
it is also short.

my dislike of "mickey mouse" elders peaked in angry disgust when a inspection of my personal closet detached one of the sleeves of my shirt unbuttoned.
i was then repremanded and threatend with expulsion from the privalige of working the microphone.i grudgingly accepted the necessity of buttoning my shirtsleeve as i belived in our just cause of helping bring about universal soveringty.. however as a result of the above event gradually and barely noticed by myself iam moving into the worldly life.
gradually the contours of the future are appearing.

Good for your friend! It sickens me how they put so much more importance on their stupid shunning rules than on helping one's own family!
i'm curious if you are "allowed'' to have "friends" of the opposite sex?
or is that a no-no?.
Hubby and I are both kind of loners so we don't have a huge circle of friends, but for the most part my guy friends are his guy friends, and his girl friends are my girl friends too.
IMO, and from a married point of view, I think it's ok to have friends of the opposite sex as long as there are no secrets. But neither I nor my hubby would go out alone with a friend of the opposite sex, not because WE don't trust each other, but because we know a lot of JWs that would love nothing more than to turn a harmless lunch date into a secret love affair, and we just don't want to deal with that.
