Wow, so the 'rank and file' are now being asked to not only ignore abuse of their children, but disinherit them by leaving all their money to the WTBS?

Double Lives of JW Youth
by camicia ini posted a lengthy concern a while back about my 23 year old daughter on the verge of baptism.
the good news is she still hasn't progressed past studying - no door knocking thank god.
the bad news is she's still studying, attending meetings, etc and i am still very much a "satanic influence.

Hi Camica, I sympathize with your plight. You're daughter probably only wants validation and love and she thinks she's found it. Is there something else that she's interested in that you could re-direct her attention to?
A thought - JW publishers represent less than 1% of the world's population. Ask her if she thinks that believing in a God that will destroy 99.99% of the world is a loving god worth giving up her life for?
Wishing you success!

Stupid rules
by MrFreeze inthere was no end to the amount of stupid rules put in place.
one that always bugged me was "no shirts with slogans when doing kh yard work or at jw gatherings.
id always get talked to about it when i'd wear shirts with a band on it or whatnot.

Good ones!
Once, after I'd faded (a long time after), my sister told me I shouldn't have 'worldly' friends....

Who is your hero?
by HintOfLime inpersonally, as a computer programmer, my hero is a bit odd perhaps - gordon ramsey.
i think gordon ramsey is awesome.
no nonsense - he tells boring, lazy, mediocre people that they are mediocre, and passionately tells them what they are doing wrong... because he wants them to do better.

Hmmm, I find Gordon Ramsay offensive .... too in-your-face.... the lines on his forehead tell it all. I find the TV is full of people trying to tell everyone how to live life. Oprah I don't mind because she does it in a way that lifts everyones spirits at the same time. Those that have to yell, well ... they haven't a clue. I've got enough stress in life, when I choose what to watch for entertainment, I look for something that relieves that, makes me laugh and makes me feel better about life, not worse.

Welcome BoC and thanks for sharing your story.
I feel for you when you say you're Stuck. I wanted to say that you're only stuck if you think you are. Even living in a divided household, you are free to believe as you wish. Even people who don't have JW's in their life, have difficulties in many different areas. It's all in how you view it.
I'm in a similar situation, but I don't go to meetings and my spouse knows how I feel. I do wish I could celebrate birthdays and holidays at home, but usually make the best of those with my friends. And I do feel totally (well almost), free to believe and live as I please.
I'll stop the preaching now ... but just had to put in my 2 cents - I thought it might help...

Buried my father today
by littlerockguy ini mostly post fluff and music posts on this thread more often now but just thought i would let some people here who still know me about what has been goin on with me recently.
my dad about a 7 month battle with lung cancer which metastasized to the bones and he died early wed morning.
my dad was a fascinating man, complex, sometimes open and sometimes a very aloof and detached person.

Flyer for this summer's assembly
by loosie ini saw the flyer today for the summer assembly.
it talks about how people are ruining the earth.
in the upper left corner are the "evil" ones one man smoking, i think the other was drinking and then a pic of a dead seagull.

We are warmly invited ... to see if humans will ruin this earth ... but we'll have to "qualify" if we want to live in the transformed paradise.

Astounded Newbie Here...*Waves Hello*
by mummatron inall i can say is "wow!
" in the 10 years i've been out i had no idea that forums like this existed.
a tad naive-sounding for someone with a background in it, i know, but it's taken me this long just to feel comfortable enough to type 'jw' into google.

Welcome Mummatron! I feel for you. I was beaten and shamed alot as a child as well. That, and not being shown how to reason for myself and navigate the world we live in. You know, sometimes I feel silly when I can't just get over it. But I'm in a much better place today. Keep searching and ye shall find.
