WHO ARE THE FALSE PROPHETS TODAY?
by Dogpatch inwho are the false prophets today.
by barbara anderson.
in 1991, one of the watch tower societys senior writers, colin quackenbush, told me in the privacy of his office about letters which the society had received from prominent and credible elders, not apostates (thats exactly what he said), who were concerned about the increase in accusations saying that jehovahs witnesses were false prophets.

I have a strange feeling Debator(Reniaia) won't be popping back into this thread.
Hopefully, but don't be too sure. It was a very good post by Essan.
That's right JWoods, because on page 242 in the Reasoning Book this is how the householders canned question reads about the 1914 generation.
"How do you know that some future generation won't fit the prophecyeven better than this one?"
If it wasn't a prophetic prediction ,why did they put the word prophecy in their canned question?
Again an excellent point - they call it prophecy themselves. I did not know that was there - have not read any of their junk-literature since 1980.

Whats the weirdest thing a JW ever said to you?

After thinking about this for a couple of days - I think the weirdest thing (out of many weird things) that I currently remember was what our JW poster Titus said right here the other day:
He said that he recognizes that all the JW prophecy and chronology is BS, but still thinks they have the truth, and went on to say that he still agrees with 97% of their teachings.
Now THAT struck me as weird.

However, to say that the Taliban represents Islam is like saying Jehovah's Witnesses represent Christianity. The Taliban are a small militant fundamentalist group that have many earmarkings of cultic activity. Do not condemn an entire religion and segment of society based on this group. They are NOT one and the same.
Then why isn't "mainstream Islam" out in the media strongly condemning this? It is NOT just the Taliban - look at the record of the Saudis, the Iranians, Somalia, and so on...
This is the most vengeful and violent major religion on earth and they need to be called out as such - just as we would be calling out the Aztecs or Incas if they were still performing modern-day human sacrifices at noon on the pyramids.

Hi Jwoods
I recommend you do some research. You will find that witnesses are certainly in no way unique in trying to establish fulfilment of bible prophecies, signs, chronoology. Jews started this with looking for the Messiah and early Chrsitians used bible prophecies to escape Jerusalem before it got destroyed by Romans. Since then nearly every Christian religion has tried to establish when various signs and prophecies have been fulfilled.
Like I said we are told to use decernment/understanding on signs and prophecies to establish their fulfilment this is not a crime.
But claiming to be inspired and be say words directly from Jehovah is.
I don't think I am the one who needs the benefit of research. I think you are the one who needs to take a dictionary and look up the meaning of the word prophet. Then ask yourself if the "new system of things" or the "thousand year reign of christ" happened in 1914, 1918, 1925, or 1975.

Got to say Reniaabator, it is comedy watching you scramble and get your butt kicked here. Some things never change, eh?
+++. Nothing new under the sun. Note that the argument is still: They are not false prophets - NOT because what they said came true, but because they are claiming the technicality of somehow not being prophets at all, after actually making a false prophecy. Pretty fancy comedic logic there.

Righteously Poisoning the Watchtower Well (Action Plan 3)
by ruruj inrighteously "poisoning the well" of watchtower (wt) - nowadays this is a metaphorical expression.
don't take it literally; no violence, no persecution, no stigmatizing.. most are not aware but they have been using this in one form or another.
but using this on wt is difficult because wt is so strong, organized and effective that metaphorically only "spattered poison" reaches the well which by now starts to taste bitter.. for it to be righteous, it has to be truthful, no matter how scandalous.

ruruj, what in the hell are you talking about?
( I put off asking that right after the opening post, thinking it might get cleared up - but this seems to be going nowhere )

OK, time for a certain poster here to punch up the comment that "Christians were worse during the crusades and the inquisition" - then I will respond with the usual BS call.
I am sorry, but Islam is doing daily barbarism in the here and now. I would be willing to give it the same freedom to be as any other religion - if they would simply make any effort to police themselves and act in a non-violent and civilized manner.
That is a big IF - and they are proving constantly that they either can't or won't.

One might ask the question - if they were NOT claiming to be inspired, then WHY were they making prophetic predictions on the end of days?
Isn't that like some common U.S. citizen (not informed, not a part of government) calling a press conference, claiming to speak for the Obama administration, and proclaiming that the U.S. will invade Iran in 2 weeks?
Wouldn't such a person get called out for false information when it didn't happen?

My mother has mid-to-advanced Altzheimers now at 85 years of age. We finally had to sell her house and put her in a controlled living facility for her own safety.
I sometimes wonder if this disease is becoming more common as many people are living longer now that more effective treatments or preventions are available for things like heart disease or cancer.
It is a very cruel disease - all you can do is be nice to them and hope that they understand at least a little.
