MY FIRST DOUBT

dear all,.

i posted my first thread a few days ago and some of you asked me questions i'm more than willing to answer.

but there is so much i want to say to you there's no way i can convey all the information at one sitting, so i've decided to tackle one subject at a time, both for the sake of not boring you and because i'd love to know how you feel about each individual topic.

This legalistic clap-trap is something that nobody has ever been able to explain - If the creator-God was so loving and forgiving, (then why didn't he just tell Adam and Eve that they would be OK, and go back and don't play with snakes, etc.) -

on page 3 the question box asks: what should you do if directed to stop preaching?.

Actually you answered the question- you were peddling the Awake magazine- serving man and persecuted for man. Sorry for the injustice, but you also got your reward in full.

It almost reads like the prenuptials for that New York City fight yesterday between the bicycle-cabbie and the regular cabbie. As an enthusiast of the internal combustion engine, I was gratified to see that the regular cabbie kicked some bicycle butt. Edit to add that if SOMEBODY was not IN somebodies face - then NOBODY would have gotten their own face punched. In both cases.

thats just something small, but being beaten up is part of the job, so to speak.

You are seriously in need of psychological help. That whole post could be the subject of a chapter on paranoia 101 for beginning students in a college of learning.

I am glad you continue to come here. Perhaps something or another that is said will eventually take hold.

Is the "torture stake" dogma a reverse idolatry in itself?

witnesses have famously (and gleefully) tossed the usual christain "t" cross symbol overboard after having used it themselves for quite some time.

one common arguement is that "if christ had been shot by a rifle, you would not worship the image of the gun" -.

and yet, they do not shy away from insisting on the notion of the upright torture stake.

But here is the dichotomy - if "Caesar's Law" requires the WT to pay sales tax on the magazines they sell door to door, they will move heaven and earth (even commit practical economic suicide) to avoid the law.

If "Caesar's Law" should require that you provide information on child molesters, the society will go to every length to argue the privilege of private clerical council in the court to avoid exposure.

If "Caesar's Law" should require that parents allow blood transfusion for desparately sick children, they will go to any effort to let the child die over "religious freedom issues".

If "Caesar's Law" ever required that JW men fulfill their civic duty by performing non-combatant duty as a conscientous objector, they will force these men to go to prison rather than conform to the law. Later, they will blame the decision on the persons who were the victims.

BUT - in the case of "Preaching the Good News" - (the whole and entire RATIONALE of their existence) - if "Caesar's Law" should suggest that the JW cease and desist from harrassing people from "door to door" - then by the grace of GAWD ALMIGHTY - the good witness must obey "Caesar's Law".

Lesson to be learned - it is far less important to preach the word than to go to prison over the draft, kill your kids over weird medical fantasies, buy a Malawi party card, hide pedophiles, or avoid the tax law. Far less.

The shape of the instrument shouldn't make a difference, but the JWs like to create issues where there are none. They just wanted to ensure that they were different from Christian religions and the cross was something easy for them to pick on, in typical JW fashion.

It is interesting that the blood that was sprinkled before the mercy seat by the high priest was in the form of a cross. There are other items in the Bible and Judaism which point to a probable symbolic meaning to the form of the thing that Jesus died on.

NO, this misses the point entirely. Completely misses the point. Or, perhaps - illustrates it in the negative. Poster wants to either glorify or denounce the cruxiform (again in typical WT logic) by reference to "the thing that Jesus died on", and invoke at the same time some sort of weird mystic symbolism - as does WT, (except that the WT just wants to be different from the "churches" and have a different symbol) - In fact the point of the thread was this: Whether it was a cross or a stake or a tee, the Jehovah's Witnesses simply cannot let go of the symbolic and sadistic romantization of it. Much like the sentiment of that post above. In this sense, the Witnesses have jumped out of the frying pan of glorifying the cross, only to go on and glorify their version of the "torture stake" in manifestly more lurid imagery than anything conventional Christianity has ever come up with. When was the last time you heard a conventional Christian Easter service go on and on in detail about the forensics of the physical cause of Christ's death? The JWs do this with relish. When did you ever hear of a conventional Christian sermon refer to the cross as a "torture cross"? There is something single-mindedly lurid about the JW version, and that was the point of this thread.

What are your feelings about War?

my dad brought out a good point today.

he said how can for example, a catholic in one country go to war against a catholic in another country and both claim to have god on their side?

for instance, the catholic priest on one side prays for that side, and the catholic priest on the other side prays for his side.

"My Book of Bible Stories" returned for being "too violent for kids." You Agree?

obviously a book written for kids by old dumb morons at bethel the book starts with abels murder {with pictures for the kids} people begging to get into the ark before drowning to death...a good lesson for kiddies!

a women putting a tent peg thru someones temple {with pictures} moses killing an egyptian.

etc a horrified atheist lady returned the books my mother gave as "gifts" {count 2 placements} after seeing the horrific topics, she decided it was "not apropriate for her kids.".

I don't know if many will recall it, but way back when there was a JW Blood episode on the old B & W TV drama Dr. Kildare.

Dennis Weaver played a JW father whose kid was dying from lack of a blood transfusion.

One thing I remember was that the other JW kids were in the waiting room reading a kiddie book like Jack and the Beanstalk or such.

All the JWs (I was about 12 at the time) were all up in arms because they were shown reading a "worldly book"!!! EGADS!!!

At the time, kids were supposed to read some orange JW book - I think called Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained.
