We had the Co over for lunch last year. He saw our 50 inch TV on the wall and made a side comment about it being the most domineering thing in the room. In reality he is actually a really nice guy, very intelligent and an excellent comminicator. He could make a substantial living if he put his skills to use in a career.

Confessed my Doubts to my Wife
by cantleave inwell - i today i had the opportunity to tell my wife i no longer believe in the things that i have spent my life immersed in and that i didn't want my life run by 9 geriatrics in brooklyn.. her reaction was understandable her first questions was "what have you been reading"?.
i didn't mention this site but told her i was shocked by something i heard regarding the wts's ngo status with the un, dissapointed by the new light on the generation and disturbed by the flip flopping on blood fractions.
i explained how these things were at best hypocritical and at worst have meant some people have lost their lives unnecessarily because of the societies previous position.

Heaven with regard to your comment - When our daughter was born she was in special care with severe jaundice and at the time she was giving plasma. We justified this by saying that it was out of our control and she would have been made a ward of court if we objected. In retrospect what we BOTH really felt is the medics provided the best medical for our our daughter and accepted it. We never mentioned this to anyone else, it isn't there concern. I think if it came to a life or death situation my wife would trust the pressional judgement of the medics.

Thank you all for you comments. You have given me some great lines to build on. There hasn't been any "fallout"C or moving in defrensive mode, so I am delighted. In fact we have arranged to do something tommorow which will mean missing a meeting - that is progress!!!!!

Quite young in ours, loads of families (over 30 kids under 16 YO). Oldest is 99. Elders range from 42 - 90. Lots of inter-related families. I expect family loyalty and fear of shunning keeps the congregation together.

Well - I today I had the opportunity to tell my wife I no longer believe in the things that I have spent my life immersed in and that I didn't want my life run by 9 geriatrics in Brooklyn.
Her reaction was understandable her first questions was "what have you been reading"?
I didn't mention this site but told her I was shocked by something I heard regarding the WTS's NGO status with the UN, dissapointed by the new light on the Generation and disturbed by the flip flopping on Blood Fractions. I explained how these things were at best hypocritical and at worst have meant some people have lost their lives unnecessarily because of the societies previous position. She listened but made very little comment.
I then brought up the issue of DA and DF. I asked her "If one of our kids was disfellowshipped would you shun them?" Without any hesitation she said "No!". Excellent so followed up with "Even if that meant that you too were at risk of being shunned". Again without hesitation "My kids would always have my unconditional love, I don't believe shunning is showing love!"
Yippee - i have found some common ground. I asked another question; "do you believe that mankind is only 6000 years old?", I knew her answer would be "no". I followed that with "so you don't believe everything that comes from the WTS". Contemplative silence! I told her all I wanted to do was tell her that I am doubting the authority of the Governing Body and left her with a thought " We have two annointed in our congo, members of the FDS class, do you really believe they are involved in formulating the policies of the WTS, that the 9 members of GB really act as their mouthpiece?" She didn't need to answer that one. She suggested that we use Family Worship Evening to do more personal study, I agreed with her - on the condition we use references that are not published by the WTBS.
She obviously has her own doubts, but still feels things will be clarified in time. I at least we are having some critical discussion - its a start.

Smurfs????????
by cantleave inevery now and then i come across comical references to smurfs in posts on this site, i have been in the org all my life and never heard of any demonisation of father abraham's little blue imaginary friends, even when they they hit the uk top ten singles chart.
can someone enlighten me of what was said, where and when?
maybe i missed it because i was more concerned about kiss using an ouija board in plane or axel rose being anagram of oral sex!!!

The Grieving Process after Leaving the Cult
by cantleave ini really want my wife to see that we have spent our wholes lives in a lie, a lie promoted by mind controlling cult, but i have a problem and this is it........ my wife was extremely close to her grandmother, she lived with her in her teens and loved her to bits.
when her grandmother died, 5 years ago, my wife was devestated, the only thing that allowed her to combat the grief was the hope of the ressurection, being able to see her grandmother again in the new system.. it is in my opinion, this hope that keeps her going in the "truth".
if the she leaves the truth i am sure, that like me she will not fall back on any other religion, she will probably become more humanist and agnostic if not atheist.. this realisation will mean that she will never see her grandmother again.
