The issue for me is that if you truly believe this is Jehovah's organization and he is directing it, why would he let a small group of brothers associate HIS organization with the wicked, unclean, etc. UN?

16 reasons to doubt the divinity of the bible
by bboyneko in1)the old testament must have been written nearly two thousand years before the invention of printing.
there were but few copies, and these were in the keeping of those whose interest might have prompted interpolations, and whose ignorance might have led to mistakes.. 2) the written hebrew was composed entirely of consonants, without any points or marks standing for vowels, so that anything like accuracy was impossible, anyone can test this for himself by writing an english sentence, leaving out the vowels.
it will take far more inspiration to read than to write a book with consonants alone.. 3) the books composing the old testament were not divided into chapters or verses, and no system of punctuation was known.

Just so you don't think I'm ignorning you, I will try to do just that. However, I'm not at home right now, so it will take me a little while to get back to you on that.

Until I have time to digest all the information outlined here, I will not address any of the points mentioned. However, Bible prophecy has always been a powerful reason to me to believe in the inspiration of the Bible. I also tend to believe that most "holy" books are inspired.
Of course, my opinions are still being formulated.

he didn't like to talk about it with me because he thought it would upset me.. thanks for any input,.

I've always carried the warm & fuzzy thought that when you die whatever you personally believed in is what happens to you.
Of course, if I believe that, what happens to me? I love circular reasoning.
Anyway, we'll all find out one day, won't we?

Secret Agenda
by ItsJustMe inmore than likely this will sound like a naive question to some of you, but what is your theory as to the wbts' secret agenda?
i don't see any of them living it up....as far as i know all the governing body lives at bethel year round, eating in the cafeteria with everyone else.. what would their reason be to collect & hoard money, or belong to the un?

I'm afraid to answer that question....
Just kidding, I couldn't resist!
I think most people are motivated to some degree by acceptance of others. It's fear of being ostracized that prevents many from speaking up or acting differently. Look at kids in school - how many join clubs, support the teams, attend the pep rallies, make fun of the chess club, etc. all for acceptance by their peers. The unusual thing about witnesses, to me, is that there is a lot of emphasis on being different from the world and taking pride in that, but not being different from one another.
Anyway, maybe more than most organizations, witnesses tend to count the cost before they take any action. And part of that cost is the acceptance of their family and friends. Something would have to be of very high value to motivate one to sacrifice that acceptance.
That's the end of my philosophy segment.

First, I appreciate all the effort that has gone into providing the pertinent information here. Please don't stop here, though. I know there is effort being made to get this information included in US newspapers. For people in a situation like mine, unless I can provide sources besides the evil Internet for knowing this information, I will not be believed. Undisputed fact. There is someone I care about a lot who I would like to have the same understanding I do.
My overall point is this: your efforts here are not in vain. any future efforts to get this into mainstream media will not be in vain.
My thanks are sincere.

Bizarre Urban Myth...have you heard it?
by Preston ini remember a couple of years ago when i was out in field service i heard a story (haven't we all) about a district convention in california where the speaker was invited to give a talk, and as he was standing before the platform, he unexpectedly began to tell a slurry of sex jokes, profanities, and stories about his sex life.
everyone in attendance was shocked, and after he was removed from speaking, an elder had to inform the audience that what happened was completely unexpected and uncalled for.
being that i was a jw at the time i had no use for critical thinking, so i thought every word of it was true.

Ok...I'm going to try to remember my Smurf stories, which totally freaked me out at slumber parties.
1) A girl was wearing a necklace with a Smurf pendant. All of a sudden the pendant jumped off her neck and the Smurf walked away.
2) A boy had Smurf wallpaper in his bedroom. Late a night, the Smurfs started talking to each other.
3) A boy had a Smurf doll (or is action figure since this is a boy?). Late at night it came to life and walked around his room laughing.

A pioneer sister met a worldly guy and after some time passed he was baptized. He even began pioneering. They started dating. One morning they were out in service together and happened to be walking across a bridge. She took her bookbag and threw it over the side of the bridge, Watchtowers and Awakes floating away. She looked at him and said, "I am sick of this religion. I'm not going out in service anymore. I've had it." He gave a big sigh of relief and said, "I'm so glad you said that, I was just doing this for you." Of course, the sister just did this as a test to see if he was JW to date her or if it was really in his heart.
