When I graduated, an elder and his wife gave me shampoo, conditioner, and a blow dryer.
Yeah, I felt a little insulted.

What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?
by minimus ini've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".
the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

i just don't know how you can do it.
knowing that the "truth" is false and even laughable, it boggles my mind that you can still go, listen to the spiritual bullshit and maintain.. how do you do it?.

Making the leap - lurker to member - Hello!

i dont have many people to talk to and its been a saving grace to read your posts.. i dont really know where to start so here i go.
its been a long journey getting here and it looks as if i still have a long ways to go to get somewhere healthy, stable and strong.

concerning "morality" in the congregation, did you ever think "how do we have the nerve to judge "worldley " people ?
by looloo inwhen i was a study , at first i was really impressed with the high morals in the congregation and how "happy "everyone seemed , i eventually fell for a pioneer and commited adultery , which i felt and was made to feel the most wicked woman in the world for .
(i am married to him now ) but after i left i found out just how much had really been going on in the cong , there was one brother who had been having an affair for 5 years with a sister (he was married ) he only got reprooved and she was disfellowshipped !
i found out lots of people who wed in the hall had already done the "deed" child abuse had not been reported etc domestic violence situations , all though i am not in a position to judge "wrong doing " myself im amazed that so many in the cong had the nerve to look down on church goers "immorality " or "worldly people considering what they knew had gone on in the kingdom hall !.

My mom always told us kids that Jehovah is the only one that can judge good people from bad.
She would point out some of the crap going on in the congregation and say that being a Witness doesn't guarentee anyone a pass to the new world.
Mom also would say that the local jerk family would be sure to raise a fuss about who actually did make it through Armageddon.
"But why is she here?! I poineered and went to more meetings- I deserve this, she doesn't!"
"He wasn't even a Witness! I think he slammed the door in my face once!"
Yeah, I could hear a lot of Witnesses saying stuff like that, if I believed it anymore.

I've always had problems with species and specific, probably because I lisped when I was little.
Today in A and P I could not say "glomerular filtration". Grrr

As Witnesses we were Trained to be Obedient - Rather than Show Love
by flipper ini can list many examples of this : probably the most glaring thing i saw proving this in 1982 was when an 83 year old sister died of a heart attack on the stage at an assembly part where she gave her experience then sat down next to me and died right on my shoulder on the stage.
i motioned to a brother sitting near me on the stage to help me carry her off the stage - which we did - and the brother and i behind the curtain tried administering cpr.
a registered nurse ran behind the curtain from the audience also - but the annoying thing is the elder giving the talk just kept right on talking to the 3,000 in the audience with no reference to what had just happened !

I think that the most obvious example of this is with disfellowshipping and shunning.
How many people get shunned at a time when they need support the most?
And then the Society twists the idea of love by saying, "You're showing love by shunning wrongdoers."

I just want to share a story about someone I love ....
by troubled mind ini have to come here to brag because i have no one else to tell anymore .
i use to call my mom to brag about the kids ,but now she has past away .
i use to also call my mother -in law ,but now they hardly speak to us .... so you all will have to suffer .
