I feel he is simply not talking to his parents, and the fact that they are all Jehovah's witnesses may be incidental. Perhaps he would have endured the beatings anyways. I don't think this is shunning in the Watchtower sense.

MS shuns Witness parents
by EmptyInside ini just wanted your thoughts on this situation.
there was a young boy from my former congregatioin,he was about 5 years younger than me.. and his parents were overly strict with him.
but,i think the combination of being witnesses plus being raised the old-fashioned,southern way themselves was a bad combo for their son.. anyway,he got a lot of beatings at the meetings.

It's curious that they list atheism as a religion.

Is there a grey zone in terms of authority over a young witness?
by dgp ini am certain that the child of a jehovah's witness family is under the authority of the father.
i am sure the young daughter of this witness, who marries another witness (or anyone, for that matter) is under the "headship" of the man she marries.
but, what would happen if the child, male or female, were, say, 25, and already held a job?

But, what would happen if the child, male or female, were, say, 25, and already held a job? Does such a person remain under the authority of the father? Is there such thing as an age when your parents cease to have control over you, not by virtue of "the laws of the land" but as a result of the Watchtower doctrine?
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to post.

Converts and near-converts, what did you give up for the Watchtower?
by Nickolas inif you're born-in you probably won't understand the subject question.
maybe you will if you've taken up any bad habits since leaving the watchtower, if you've left at all.
but if you were a convert (or near-convert, like i was) did you have to change your lifestyle in order to conform to the expectations of the society?.

One of the hard lessons to be learned about this religion is the longer you hold on the more you lose.
So true, Nickolas.

Gary, thank you very much for your kind words. I appreciate them all the more because they come from you. You and Nickolas are where I wish I had gone, and I can see I was spared lots of trouble. Now that I read WTWizard's post, nope, it wouldn't have lasted. I wouldn't have gone that far.
I forgot to mention that one of the good things that came with my involvement was my landing in this forum, and the good friends I have made here.
