NEARLY 17 YEAR OLD BOY IS MINISTERIAL SERVANT
by minimus inthings must be getting pretty desperate.
i just heard some wonderful news of another boy being appointed a ministerial servant.
the comment was that even though he is young, he is very mature.another person, speaking of a different boy being appointed said that he had the added advantage of being home schooled and that really helped him to mature.

That is very young, though I guess not unheard of.
But, honestly, a lot could happen, including his getting a big head over his appointment. Giving a measure of authority to a guy that young could end up being a big mistake.

hey plmkrzy, I know what you mean by "inspiration" - after reading this thread and then posting I walked a few flights of stairs at work, part of my daily routine anyway but, after reading this, I was inspired to do more. Funny how discussing this stuff can do that.
Now, maybe I should check out some active sex threads.........

Leander,
After looking in the mirror at age 39 and seeing myself in physical decline at a weight of 225 (not good for a 5'11 guy) I decided to get back to basketball and tennis, and continue with my weight-lifting. I got my weight down to 173, but that was a bit too lean; I felt tired all the time. My last weigh-in has me at 187, and my goal is simply to keep my wieght consistent (not easy!!) and stay in decent shape. My weight-lifting workout has now been reduced to mainly biceps curls due to an inflammation in my right shoulder (probably from my job and from playing tennis). I have had to slow my tennis serve down as well.
I have certain eating "rules" that I try to follow - no eating snacks after dinner and at night; no eating between meals except for light snacks between lunch and dinner. Cutting way down on my nemesis, the potato chip, a nemesis for which I have a certain fondess. I also rarely eat desserts.
When I was a teenager, I dropped my weight from 200 to 130 over a span of about 9 months and ended up hosptalized. I am constantly fighting the battle of being concerned about my weight and at the same time not getting fanatical about weight loss. I've never thought of myself as having an eating disorder, but sometimes I do wonder; but for the most part I do have a fairly healthy attitude about food and weight loss. There's just certain times when I seemed to lose my 'grip' a bit.

Cygnus is in bad shape
by Cygnus injust so i don't miss anybody who is interested.... my results from the ekg and the echogram showed a severe leak in a heart valve.
i am going for an angiogram on the 15th but the cardiologist says the liklihood is great that i will need open heart surgery.
rare for a 30 year old but if necessary, it is necessary.. no word yet on the results of the blood work for liver enzymes and hepatitis.

Yeah, the Williams sisters. Every jw kid who ever gave up a good opportunity to engage in sports should remember these gals. And the kids who have a chance now should remember them too, and so should their parents. They should mention them to the elders when they are given 'counsel' about engaging in organized atheltics.

New rules from WTS to restrict use of internet?
by Nowfree ini know of a presiding overseer who has recently got rid of the modem and internet connections on his pc.
the reason given was that he didnt use it enough to make the monthly expense worthwhile.. but i wonder?.
have there been any local needs items or talks recently about whether it is wise to use the internet?.

Interesting comments.
Joanna, good point - it is much like the demonization fo rock n' roll. And the response is ultimately the same; people will do it anyway.
Calico Cat - hey, I'm all for that new breed of jw's! And you're right - despite the warnings, there are jws that have launched and maintained such sites.
VM44 - I wonder if Stevie's site contains boobie pics.

If all people were JWs, who'd commit crimes??
by Bona Dea ini didn't know where else to post this or whether or not this had already been posted.
this was so outrageous, i couldn't pass it up.
wt aug 15 02, back of mag, article: "do you know why i'm returning your money?":.

I've always wondered about such stories (a fellow jw friend and I have speculated that such stories are often exaggerated). And if it is true, then what Ozzie, Dakota, and others have mentioned is true - why make a speech about it? Why the self (and organizational) glorification? And what about the scripture that Ozzie posted (hmmm, kind of a play on words, I guess) concerning Jesus' words on giving gifts and acts of mercy?

Ned Flanders is a JW!
by Simon injust watching the simpsons where homer gets his thumb cut off.
there is a scene where ned is reading a story to one of his kids:.
"so, harry and his friends go straight to hell for practising witchcraft".

There's a local family that we call (behind their backs of course ) the Flanders. Perfect JWs in every way. They rehearse field service presentations on the way to the ministry. They sing kingdom songs before their family study. They pray not just over a meal, but even over a bowl of friggin' ice cream. Their lives are one big Platform Demonstration.
One of my favorite Ned moments was when Homer had the crayon removed from his skull and was all of a sudden super-intelligent. He hands Ned a paper and says 'I just proved that God doesn't exist'. Ned reads it, shakes his head and says 'it's airtight'...then lights a match to it and says 'can't let this little baby get out'.
