upon learning that wt was not "god's organization", i was devastated.
for two decades i had spent valuable time building friendships, mostly with jws.
during my stay at bethel, i made many fine friends, some of them very close.
I hear you LWT.
For myself, I abandoned a great majority of my friends within the borg. I saw it as making their work easy for them since they weren't real friends anyway.
However, there is one that I keep in contact with for right now, although our friendship is starting to fade. It is a heavy price to pay, but for my mental and emotional freedom, I am willing to make such payment.
I am with a volunteer organization in my neck of the woods and the work varies. 2 weeks ago, I assisted in feeding homeless women. This Sat. I am suppose to assist with a Shamrock Fest through this same organization, but will decline due to personal business and a date.
it's been about going on 2yrs that i've been df'd and not even 1yr that i stopped going to the khall at all...but...i'm proud to say that as of last night i was going through my phone and decided that i needed to just cut out all those people that didn't matter anymore!
you know, the old jw 'friends' (use that term loosely) whose numbers i've held onto all this time and don't need anymore.
i mean, never going to bother with these people again.
I'm not even out yet and have already managed to erase the many of them out of my life.
initially i suppose i did.
i know i over studied the articles for the wt study because i thought my enthusiasm as a study would make me more accepted.
but after awhile i didnt read the awakes at all except for a cursory glance because i was giving them to people.
Sometimes, if I thought it was of interest or felt it was applicable to my situation. Most of the time, I didn't bother.
so this past saturday, i stopped over at my parents' home to take care of some business.
as my brother dropped me off in front of the house, lo and behold, the witnesses from my previous congregation were parked right in front of my parents' home.
damn..... they were in a car group working a frequent rv who lives next door to my folks.
LOL @ troubled mind. Good for you!!! It is very sad that they actually do believe that a person can't experience any real joy and happiness on this planet. They always assume that once a person leaves the faith, they fall into the snares of the Devil and get involved in all kinds of immoral activity or are empty and on the verge of suicide. Total BS!

Again, thank you all for your comments. I'll continue to read up as much as possible here and eventually get the suggested books to read that will help me be more informed and confident in where I stand should another encounter like this occur again.

i remember about twenty years ago some teenagers were caught fornicating in one of the additional schools.
the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.
they weren't just happened upon, though.
Here were some of the memorable KH disruptions I have witnessed:
1) A bi-polar sister was in a crying and screaming fit during a book study. When the paramedics arrived and were able to calm her down, she kept loudly stating, "I committed fornication against Jehovah."
2) During a SM, the sound system picked up frequency from a local church and blarred out the church singing a song with the words, "Coming to the Lord!" (lol)
3) Although not a KH disruption, but an old PO of my former congregation stated that they received the KH phone bill and found a number of 1-900 psychic hotline calls on the bill. Thus, banning all minors from using the phones at the KH.
