I find it ironic that they point out that most schollars and even religious thinkers accept that the majority of the story is allegorical, yet pride themselves as having the "truth" without one solid piece of evidence to back themselves up. Technology has advanced to the point we are are finding planets in other solar systems. If there was a global flood this would be a very easy event to prove. My folks just don't get that. Arte

January 1 WT - Garden of Eden - Most inane article in a while
by eric356 inthe wt has really managed to outdo itself in regards to stupid, poorly researched articles attempting to defend ancient myths as literal history.
the latest effort is the cover article "the garden of eden - myth or fact?".
no moderately educated adult should have to ponder that question for long before answering "myth".

Top 10 reasons why JWs don't have the truth - please contribute
by oldlightnewshite ini thought it would be an interesting exercise to ask everybody on here what their 'top 10 reasons why jws don't have the truth' actually were.
maybe we can see some correlating views/patterns/ideas that may help us de-programme the newbies that come on this site.
if eventually most people have an outstanding gripe/concern it'll help everybody understand the ex-jw mindset a little better.

I left over 10 years ago, before a lot of the scandals hit the fan.
So this is mine
1) Genocide/ Armageddon
2) Blood Transfusion
3) Mindcontrol, not allowing personal research
4)Lack of Charity
5) Twisting the scriptures ( the Revelation study book in particular)
6) false Prophecy
7) Never acknowledging mistakes
8) Hypocrates (my Dad was constantly being councelled for being too materialistic, yet the elders had no problem taking interest free loans and not paying him back.)
Im sure there is more, but these are the main points

NOW how do you view the Future?
by theMadJW incasting aside what little you learned about god and christ- are you thrilled with the future of mankind?.

We are living in a time of great scientific advances, medical marvels, and fantastic achievements. We are living longer, we are striving for a greener world, and there is more freedom of though and opportunities (for women particularly) than at anyother time.
There is nothing pessermistic in my view of the world. There is great human suffering, but no more than at any other period. The only difference being we now have the mass media which can report these stories.
I am not afraid of death, I do not live in fear of judgement, I embrace the future and all it has to offer, a hope that one day we can really live in "peace and security" of our own wordly making . Yes I am thrilled and excited about the future.

Reverse Shunning
by gutted ini have a confession.
i am using reverse shunning.. i have ignored the elders calls.
i do not want to hang out with witnesses anymore (besides my family and one friend).

I have reverse shunned all my family and Ex-JW friends. It was probably wrong of me as I was never baptised, so was never shunned by my family. I just have very little interest in anything they say or do.

I have been out for a long time, and am lucky I still have some limited contact with my family.
I don't hate any 1 peron, or have any bad feelings towards anyone as an individual. But everytime there is something that shows the borg up, suffer some kind of embarrassment or misfortune, I definatly do feel Shadenfreude.
I think you are right, I am desperate to get my brothers and sisters out. Maybe that is why??
From reading a lot of the posts, I don't think I'm the only one that feels this.

Has Your WT Experience Taught You to Be Wiser?
by cameo-d indo you think your wt experience has taught you not to be so gullable?
because of the injustices and bad experiences, have you become a more discerning person?
do you find now that you ask many more questions before you "jump" into things?
-
artemis.design
Yes, it made me wiser, and bolder too. I never believed in JW teaching, even as a kid. I just went along with it to keep eveyone happy.
Now I always voice my opinions, and don't care if they go against the grain, or even if hey are socially unacceptable. If this is wise or no - mm not sure!

I went on a bus/truck from the UK to OK. It was amazing. Obviously a bit more time required - 9 month. Now I'm all grown up with a mortgage, job and responsibilities I don't get to have much of an adventure anymore. I wpuld love to do trans-Siberia. Can't imagine my partner being up for it though.
Would you get much time to see stuff if its only 6 days?
check out the London to OZ
