I think the idea of God being good is a fairly recent idea on the scale of things. Almost every culture had some form of supreme being, but he/she was a God to be feared, not loved. If there is a God, I don't think he/she would even possess human qualities. I think God is far beyond our tiny minds, existing as neither good or bad. I personally think Christians have made God "good" as the powerful, angry, vengful God of the Old testament, that murders and destroys, does not fit with the merciful and forgiving God they would rather talk about.

Why is it necessary that God be good?
by gubberningbody inif there is a sb (supreme being), there really isn't any logical necessity that it would conform in any manner to what we call "good".
it simply isn't a requirement, and yet for religious people it simply must be that god is good.. .
i wonder if it's love or fear, which causes people to cling to this idea.. .

so the watchtower in it's wisdom put a strict bad on women wearing pants at meetings, even in siberia or alaska where it is freezing cold....i qoute the governing body who said: "we need to show these sisters who wears the pants in our congregations...literally.".
in the 70's when it was all the rage, my mum tried wearing slacks to the hall....."go and get changed" said the sister who studied with her.

I know how fustrating it is. I am 32 and have lived with my partner for 3 years, but when we visit relatives we can still not stay over night, neither will relatives stay over at our house. But I don't think it is worth getting worked up about. I doubt many dubs would allow it. At least they are willing to have some form of relationship with your daughter, and getting angry about it makes you look worse. Like others have said, this is not just a dub thing, and if you knew this was gonna happen then why not just book a hotel. Life is too short to get angry about the unavoidable.
As for you daughter and partner still being virgins... yeh right. I don't mean that offensive, it just human nature. A heard of wild elephants can't stop the passion of young teenagers.

The congregation I was in a a kid was kind of relaxed, even cool. Several of the elders played in a band. No one interfered too much.
I remember other congregations I visited though, where waist coats and bow ties were not allowed.

I can not understand how people can take the bible so literally. I mean, is believing in a literal story about snake, fruit and the garden of eden, any more far fetched than believing the earth rests on elephants? I just find it hard to understand how intelligent people are so gullible. Having said that, I don't care if people belive in the spagetti monster, but being condemed for not believing, that is another matter.
Yes it was the little boy who shouted, he ain't got no clothes on. I wish my JW family could see the similarity.

I can't help that I think less of poor spellers
by gubberningbody ini just do.. if a thread title has misspelled words or someone's rant has misspelled words, all i see are those ragged, misplaced letters all akimbo.. it's like watching early morning tv and i can't notice anything said by the fat woman who doesn't know how to dress for her figure.. i just think silently ... "you're fat and you dress poorly.

I am an awful speller -it is the bain of my life. I have tried and tried to improved. I have a spelling book and a game on the internet, but I don't seem to have improved much. When I went to school it was at a time when spelling just was not important. I think it was about 3% of our grade. I passed with an "A" in English Lit, without even being able to spell literature. Mm this was about 15 years ago. Since then the spell check on computers have just made things worse. I have tried to study the origin of the language to try and understand it's meaning more. I am not sure if this has helped my spelling but it is interesting to learn about. I did not know there was a spell check on here.
