i am infp.. some former witnesses in my hometown had a meetup last night...alas, only four of us.
but it turned out we had an infp(me), two infjs, and an enfp.
therefore, it turned out we were all idealists.

zephaniah 2:3. world english bible.
seek yahweh, all you humble of the land, who have kept his ordinances.
but, who have kept his ordinances, means their own righteousness.
Well if we are talking about the dictionary definition, then it is talking about virtue, morals, justice... that kind of thing. Of course the watchtower tries to copyright that word to their own definition. So really, what is the most moral and right thing to do? Well isn't that a bit subjective on which society or period of human history that you are living in?
So yes, this topic is a bit confusing. But if you want my personal opinion, I believe that it is our quest to learn more and more about the world and ourselves. With more knowledge we are able to further define morality and virtue. As a human race we need to err on the side of love. Personally I look at Star Trek and all its incarnations as a good example of what it means to be righteous as we advance our knowledge of ourselves, the earth, and the universe.
I like this clip ;)
it's well worth a look .

crisis of conscience within the traralgon congregation of jehovahs witnesses?
part 2december 18, 2011 by sitepost .
So is there a way we can get some publicity on this in the US? Maybe contact RAINN (Rape abuse and Incest National Network) or something like that?
i hung out with a group of jw's the other night for the first time outside going to kingdom hall, and the conversation was seriously limited.
do jw's just not want to talk about anything that regular people with a clue about something in the world get together to talk about, or are they really that boring due to the brainwashing?
it was astonishing.
Being interested in other topics than the "truth" is considered a lack of spirituality, since any other topic than the Borg is worldy. Even the brothers and sisters that are interested in other stuff quickly learn to shut their mouth and never let anyone suspect that they have other interests in life.
Yep, this was my experience. If you are in mixed JW company it can be very hard to not offend someone or be looked at in a bad light. If I was with my close friends I could talk about more than just the safe topics. I spent my whole life growing up keeping opinions to myself. Unless of course I was around someone I really trusted.
Please don't tell me they judge marriage mates on their standing in the congregation...
Wow you must have been with some Uber Dubs that night!
a f/b friend just posted this link .
which makes some interesting claims .
so i thought i'd share.. some here at jwn have an extensive knowledge of early christianity .
There is also a lot of evidence that ties the story of Jesus to the Astrological calendar too!
This is a good article, but it is long: http://www.holyblasphemy.net/jesus-zodiac/christmyththeory

The dreamy, distorted, lo-fi Cults have produced an effortlessly breezy song with a melody that isn't so much sung as it is released into the air. The lead single off the band's self-titled debut album, "Go Outside" sounds like an innocent call to play in the sunshine. But don't be fooled by its chiming glockenspiel or the children's voices in the chorus, for the tune has a sinister side: it's preceded by an audio recording of Jonestown cult leader Jim Jones saying, "To me, death is not a fearful thing. It's living that's treacherous." Jones' message gives added weight to the lyrics' subtle references to depression — "You really want to stay inside and sleep the light away" — and turns the song from a celebration of life into something much darker.
Bonus trivia: Jones' followers also appear in the music video; director Isaiah Seret spliced together original footage to make it appear as if the People's Temple are actually singing along.

yesterday i was reflecting on how being raised jw has effected my body image.
i remembered an assembly talk from a couple of years ago.
the speaker was doing your normal talk about modesty in dress.
Thanks for the replies!
mamamo - I agree, if you've got it, flaunt it!
Shades of Grey - It is so nice to not really have to WORRY about what other people think of your body.. if its good or bad! Its just one more stupid thing to be concerned over that we all just really don't need.
Wobble - Thanks for the words of encouragement! I will probably take before and after pictures... with no face... and might wait a while to post them though, due to possible online stalking.

Yesterday I was reflecting on how being raised JW has effected my body image. I remembered an assembly talk from a couple of years ago. The speaker was doing your normal talk about modesty in dress. He was saying how women need to think about how they are dressing not just because they don't want to "stumble" their brothers but because the demons take pleasure in looking at women!! Why after all, their first sin was looking at women and taking human wives! So now I had this in my brain that if you dressed seductively at ALL there were DEMONS looking at you! Wow,what better way to get women to wear mumus than an argument like that!
So now after being mentally free for 2 years I am connecting the dots about how I view myself. As a witness you should look nice but not TOO nice. I've realised that my whole M.O. was to just blend in to whatever crowd I was in, at meetings or at school. Attention from the opposite sex was bad. At school, you didn't want worldly guys interested in you because you couldn't date them anyway, and at meetings you didn't want to "stumble" anyone. So blending in, not standing out too much, thats how I operated. It didn't help that I was a 5'10 tall skinny blonde.
Fast forward to now. After marrying I gained weight and was considered a healthy weight (as a teenager was underweight naturally). But as the years passed, I got a bit heavier. I wanted to do something about it but for some reason I just didn't CARE enough. Had a baby, now I am just about 15 pounds over weight. But I want to tone up and build strength while looking more fit. I haven't been able to get serious about it though and I think I have just figured out why, due to reasons stated above. If I work out and get fit I want to be able to show it off! Which was something I couldn't do while a witness without feeling guilt! And also I wouldn't be blending in. Now that I'm out, I feel like I want to stand out a little bit more and if I put in the work on myself I want to be able to flaunt it a little bit!!
Did anyone else feel this way when they were JWs? How do you feel they affected your self image?
