As A Witness Did You Typically Feel Guilty?
by minimus ini believe the way the organization keeps many people in its clutches is by means of guilt.
no one can adhere to all of the theocratic rules of the organization and they know that.
i believe jws do things to ease their consciences.

So Everything Was Going Good Until...
by tryingtoexit ini drew a blank on a particular question.
i basically had a talk with my parents over the weekend.
they've been jw's since the 50's and pops been an elder since 83. so i knew it was gonna be hard, but i basically told them to their face that i am no longer going to be a jw and gave a few reasons why.

I'm very impressed by this story. It's great that your folks seem so reasonable. As far as who will live on earth when (I don't believe any of it, so this is just a suggestions), tell them that maybe someone doesn't have to be completely right all the time and know all the answers. If they choose to believe in some of the Bible, let them know that there's nothing wrong with forming their own speculative conclusions. That in and of itself is a very helpful and empowering thing to keep in mind, I have found. Good luck.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year...
by Cthulhu in...to make donations to both local and national charities in the spirit of christmas and all.
i don't know about different locations, but in ours the charities will ask the local grocers and banks to collect for them and give the donor a little something in return.
most often this is little more than a decorative slip of paper that is displayed with the donor's name on sort of a wall of fame by the entry way.

...to make donations to both local and national charities in the spirit of Christmas and all. So that's what I did. I don't know about different locations, but in ours the charities will ask the local grocers and banks to collect for them and give the donor a little something in return. Most often this is little more than a decorative slip of paper that is displayed with the donor's name on sort of a wall of fame by the entry way. So, when I donated I chose to do so in someone else's name, that being the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. It was the best dollar I spent all week and I think I'm going to do a few more. Wouldn't it be great if one of the elders saw a dozen or two of those in the grocery store? Indeed, it is the little things in life!

I've always been inclined to think that there are beings other than ourselves on the same physical level as we are. Even as a Witness I believed in extraterrestrials, though I was very very careful about mentioning this to anyone.

I feel good...
by Cthulhu into know that i am an active apostate.
it's funny, when i think back to how they describe those of us who have seen the truth about the lies there really is some truth to it.
granted, we are not a bunch of spiritual hunch backs with sharpened teeth and drool running down our faces.

to know that I am an active apostate. It's funny, when I think back to how they describe those of us who have seen the truth about The Lies there really is some truth to it. Granted, we are not a bunch of spiritual hunch backs with sharpened teeth and drool running down our faces. But I remember one instance where a brother (or maybe one of the magazines) said that "apostates delight in leading people away from Jehovah." Now, I don't mean to say I take joy in damaging peoples lives, from a normal standpoint. However, in helping two people who are on their way out from that crackpot lunatic organization and all its nutty adherents, I have found that I DO enjoy "damaging" their views of the Watchtower Society. It's sort of an interesting thought. They are right about some of us finding joy in that, but, as usual, they credit us with the wrong motivation. Has anyone else realized this joy?

Write letters to citizens of Warwick New York exposing the Watchtower org.
by koolaid-man ina recent newspaper article in the warwick new york newspaper uncovers the plans for the watchtower society to move out of brooklyn new york and set up their world headquarters in warwick.
http://www.strausnews.com/articles/2009/11/25/warwick_advertiser/news/2.txt the citizens of warwick and the surrounding communities should be exposed to what the watchtower society really is, a dangerous and destructive cult!
note in the newspapers link comments made at the end of the article from concerned readers warning the community to really think twice before permitting the watchtower org.

I would love to help if at all possible. Might help counteract all that wretched letter writing I did in the past.

They are used to living in a sci fi fantasy world, so they gravatate toward it. It's a wonder they aren't all playing dungeons and dragons...after all, they play Jehovah's Witnesses every friggin day

would you ever forget your life as a JW?
by highdose inand would you want to?
its starting to seem like a distent memory for me, even though its only been a year.

I know I couldn't forget it, and I'm pretty certain I wouldn't want to. It was an experience that took a number of years of my life to get through, and even though at the core of it all there was a lot of negatives, I did make a few friends that were worth keeping and that are truly wonderful. It also helped to make me the person I am. I am analytical, I can see a lot of alternate sides to matters as a result of the thought process that developed over the years that I was a Witness. I spoke to a Buddhist who told me that suffering is not the experiences of life, but how we react to them, because nobody likes change. We want to be stationary but life is anything but that. This led to her telling me that we are really nothing more than the culmination of all the experiences we have had and how we have reacted to them, up to this point in our lives. I am happy with who I am and that includes my history, a large portion of which was spent as a dub.
