Makes perfect sense to me too. I mean the Jews were careful not to say His name in order to sanctify it. It is funny, how today at the assembly, we had a Bethelite speaker say that we should refer to Jehovah as 'Daddy.' Hmmmm.... Sounds like Christendom teaching to me. (Romans 8:14-17)

My daughter when real young called them Skelikins, but she never had any in the closet, at least that I was aware of. My daughter is very young and I think it is cute that of all the things she wants to dress up as, she wants to go as a skeleton. As far as having them in the closet, I was refering to the WBTS and their skeletons. You know, like this:

Is there anyone on the GB who has more than a high school certificate?
by Lady Lee insome time this week i will be interviewed by a couple of university students doing a project on jehovahs' witnesses.
the one i spoke to knows very little about them.. it will be an interview on my personal experience as a jw but from her initial phone call we saw that my answers easily led to more questions.
she doesn't realize she is talking about a cult but began to get the idea that the wts has a lot of control over the lives of jws.. so the education thing came up and i explained how education beyond high school was not encouraged and even though they give lip service to it post-secondary education is still not highly recommended.. which got me to thinking.

The Almighty Homer said:
I'm seeing more JW youngsters today reaching up to get a HSD and even further than that. Not according to what I witnessed today at the assembly. Two high school girls, one of them was apparently an honors student for her guidance counselor kept urging her to consider college, were proudly proclaiming that they will forgo the 'temptation' of pursuing college in order to do more pioneering work. I could be wrong, but a part of me thinks that these girls are going to later regret this decision.
I asked my wife on the way home what she thought of that and she replied, "Well if it suits them and makes them happy then who are we to judge." I have to admit, this was the first time my wife was so 'open minded' about that as I expected her to say something along the lines of 'I think they have good spiritual goals that I wished I had pursued in leiu of getting married, having kids, and pursuing my bachelor's degree in teaching.'
But to play 'devil's advocate' I sincerely believe that these girls were somehow 'strongly influenced' to set aside college in pursuit of 'Kingdom interest.' What is even sadder is how the Society makes these people out as models for the rest of us. As shamus pointed out, it would seem like many people with advanced education came into the 'truth' after they earned their degrees (like the elder we have been having our 'Bible studies' with).

I'm going as a NERD or maybe a door to door publisher for the WBTS. Um, is there a difference?
My daughter is going as a skeleton. Guess if I go as a 'publisher' I will need to hide her in the closet with their other skeletons.

Thank you Blondie,
As I already pointed out in another thread, the scripture cited in Question 14a conveniently skips past a very important passage of scripture John 14:6. I kept telling my wife that this scripture is the narrow road of righteousness that Christians believe in. I guess she will continue to believe that her organization is that narrow road.

Are you searching?
by wantstoleave inwhen i expressed my doubts about my beliefs to my parents the other day, my mom said that 'no matter what people do, they are always searching for something.
if it's not this religion, which one will you go to?'.
she gave the example that practically since time began, people have been clinging to hope in some form or another, namely religion.

Simon Peter answered him: 'Lord, WHOM shall we go away to? YOU have sayings of everlasting life...'" You know, that is a good point. I was at the assembly hall today with my wife. They went over the watchtower concerning everlasting life on earth (a Christian hope). They quoted John 14:1-5 stating that Jesus was telling His disciples how they were going to have the "heavenly hope" and Thomas asked in verse 5 "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
They conveniently (so it seemed to me) skipped the very important verse (verse six) that came next: 'Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."' My wife said that Jesus was only just trying to show His disciples how they have the heavenly hope and how they did not understand this until the Holy Spirit annointed them at Pentacost. I guess since the subject was concerning Christians with the Earthly hope, this scripture must not apply to them.
They seem to have a peculiar way of looking at things from my perspective.

I was reading through AGuest's words and it got me thinking about today at the Assembly hall my wife and I attended in Richmond, VA. I can't seem to place my finger on it but I swear the people there seemed a little, well, um, snooty. That never occurred to me before. Maybe it is because I've grown a bit accustomed to my new church that I have been attending recently where the atmosphere is so casual that it is a complete 180 from the KH's.
I felt like I was the guy who would ask, "Would you please pass the jelly," in the commercial with the snooty people asking for the Pollaner's All Fruit.

I don't know. My wife spilled coffee on herself on the way to the assembly and we made light of it at lunch time with the elder, his wife, and one of the other brothers from her KH. Well, the comment I made was, she cannot sue the store because it wasn't hot enough. The brother just made a wierd look and said nothing.
Close to the end of lunch, we met up with one of the sisters who was trying to conduct a 'Bible study' with my sister in law. This lady asked about my sis-in-law and my wife suggested she could come to our house when she moves in with us to perform a study. I then added, "...and don't forget to count your time!" While showing a thumbs up. Both my wife and the sister kind of shrugged it off, no making light of it or nothing. Guess I had a "please pass the jelly" moment.

cognac:
I'm not sure if it will be the beginning of the end for your husband's faith in the religion but here's hoping. I've challenged my wife to find proof for the 1914 date that the society has given. She went to the library and discovered that 607 was not the date given for the desolation of Jerusalem but instead 586 or 587 B.C.E.. Somehow, my wife ignored that and instead looked at 539 B.C.E. and the 70 years that was prophisized and decided that 607 was close enough for her. BOING!!!!!
I told her that she needed to reresearch that because she obviously has something wrong. She must have done something because sometime later she began to say that I may perhaps be right about 1914. When I told her that I predict that the society will eventually drop the 1914 teaching, she stated that it was the foundation for a lot of what they consider to be the truth so they cannot drop it. I said that I think they will but they will do it very subtly and within about 10 to 20 years, there will be new Jehovah's Witnesses who will have never heard of that date.

And the DEMONS WERE VERY REAL TOO (and apparently lurking everywhere) waiting to be "invited in" by a rock song or a thrift-store tea pot. Yeah, my wife has this fear of the demons too. Well, when she isn't thinking about how Jehovah is going to destroy her for partaking in my 'worldly' activities (like holidays). She and I had a 'discussion' about religion again one night (I forget the topic) and I recall her coming back with her saying, 'You don't know how powerful Satan is.' I responded, "And you don't know how powerful God is."
It just make me think of the scripture where it states: 'having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof...' (2 Timothy 3:5 KJV). I guess reading it in context, I cannot say if it should be applied to JW's but then again they seem to act as if Satan is more powerful in their lives than God is.
