a quick search on my 2003 wt cd reveals over 14,000 references just to satan's name..what is the worst thing satan could do to a jw?
Jehovah protected me, i was totally unaware, this guy could easily have attacked me BUT i know without a doubt Jah sent angels to give me protection. |
Well, just keep it balanced and fear God alone and you will do well. Check all things and make sure the rules you are following are indeed from God and not from a man made organization. That is not always cut and dry but keep praying and searching the scriptures for truth and do not let your beliefs rest on what you are being taught alone.

You sound like my wife. It is true that Satan is the prince in power of the air and sea but he is not all powerful. Just like my wife, you underestimate the power of God. The Bible clearly state that God alone should be our fear and He alone should be our dread (go read it in your NWT bible Isaiah 8:12-13). That's not to say we should tempt God by toying with the devil and the occult but we should never fear the devil. As His children God will protect us, but not if we tempt Him (Matthew 4:6-7). Satan gets to us by tempting us (check the Genesis account concerning Eve and look up in the Bible how Satan tempted David with Bathsheba). But he cannot do anything to us without God's consent (read the book of Job).
In short, God's in charge and the Jehovah's Witnesses do not seem to believe this when you look at how they fear Satan. They have the form of Godliness but seem to deny His power. Remember Matthew 10:28, "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (or as your translation says it, Gehenna)." Interesting how Jesus regards the body and the soul as seperate entities in this verse, does the Watchtower do this?
what to can you do to prevent kids from being indoctrinated and possibly become jw one day?.
what i do (son is 7, twins were born this year):.
talk openly with my son about cults and how they trick people.talk openly about jw history: false prophecies, pyramids, ruthrford.....signed my son for soccer team.help him to find "worldly" friends.although i hate to listen jws bs, when my wife goes to the meeting i go with them to make sure no elders are "encouraging" them.although i am an agnostic today, i read the bible and pray with the family, becouse otherwise my wife would take over ... (since daddy is "spiritually weak"...)i work hard to not be df to not lose control over my son spiritual education.... what else you do/suggest?.

I don't like it either and I agree with Chalam that for me it may be dangerous given that I am a Christian. I guess if I were an agnostic or an atheist I could just dismiss it as just another religion (though one with a cult like mentality). For me, it is a false religion with a cult like mentality that is potentially leading 6 million people to their deaths. The sad thing is they sound so close to Christianity in many ways that I can easily see how that group manages to pull so many Christians away. I thank God for the Internet to do my research (though it is considered Satan's domain by my wife if the information did not come from here).

I know this will only confuse your son and I can understand why you chose to back off of it and not take him to another church (especially considering you're agnostic). But I tend to ask my wife how my religion is false and hers is the only 'true' one. Their religion has nothing to offer that is any more 'true' than other religions with similar beliefs. They deny the trinity, so do adventists and christadelphians. These two groups also profess soul sleep (where the soul dies with the body) just like the watchtower. These two groups also influenced the witnesses. So how can they make the sole claim to being the 'true' religion?
I knew when I first heard them proclaim that they had the 'truth' and that they were the only group who had it, something wasn't right. If at least one religious groups believes the same as they do, their claim goes down the toilet (The Black Swan). Given that the truth is objective and does not change, if at least one aspect of their teachings changes, their claim goes down the toilet. You can't claim to have the truth if your 'truth' changes, 'present truth' and 'progressive truth' are oxymorons because the truth is timeless. Better to claim that you have a theory on what you beleive is the truth for accepted theories are simply that, beliefs.
Concerning birthdays, I challenged my wife on how birthdays are considered bad but weddings are considered okay.

" (jo 11: 24) the term "last day" was explained as applying to the millennium, in the same way as "judgment day" for those receiving an earthly resurrection.. now for paragraph 11 - i noticed some bemused faces, as usually john 6 is avoided in articles discussing earthly resurrection:.

I would be real interested to see if they indeed began increasing the number of memorial partakers to include the 'other sheep.' The Society has a real problem on its hands, how can the literal number of 144,000 not be filled up by now? I understand that the Society may even consider appointing people from the 'other sheep' to the Governing Body.
If the 'other sheep' do begin to partake of the emblems or even become appointed to the Governing Body, I can see it causing a stir. But the society will find some way to explain it away. I will, of course, point out the major shift to my wife but she is so sold on the religion that the society could tell her that the sky is purple and she would believe it. I guess she'll keep drinking the Koolaid for after all, she has too much family involved to leave it behind.

Thanks, you've given me reason why I should continue to 'support' my wife in her attendance by attending with her.

the one i spoke to knows very little about them.. it will be an interview on my personal experience as a jw but from her initial phone call we saw that my answers easily led to more questions.
she doesn't realize she is talking about a cult but began to get the idea that the wts has a lot of control over the lives of jws.. so the education thing came up and i explained how education beyond high school was not encouraged and even though they give lip service to it post-secondary education is still not highly recommended.. which got me to thinking.
Kind of hypocritical if you ask me...tell people not to go to University, then use their expertise when it suits you.. |
It's very hypocritical indeed. I don't really know why the society thinks that pursuing a college education will take you away from God. During my college years, I came across a Christian group who I felt drew me closer to God than I had ever been before (and since honestly). Why can't the society try to set up bible study groups on campus or set up their own colleges that teach real skills.

Well, I am glad to hear that but I still find it very sad that they use these people as models for the rest of the people attending the assemblies. I mean, after all, nothing like making my wife feel like she is not doing enough for the organization because she is required to pursue a bachelor's degree in order to teach at any federally licensed school setting (which is what she enjoys). Let her continue to envy her little protoge who only got her 2 year degree in early childhood development so she could pursue her spiritual goals. Never mind the fact that this protoge of my wife's will never be able to do more than be a teacher's assistance at most places (which pays very little to no money). But hey, she's single and still lives at home with her parents. Jehovah will really be able to use her.
i have been thinking about this alot recently.
calling our god the creator by his first name jehovah takes alot of nerve.

Of course, that does not surprise me. Why should it considering what I've learned from that same elder concerning the baptismal questions and why it seems like people are dedicating their lives to the the Father, the Son, and the spirit-directed organization. I've learned that many studies spend anywhere from 6 months to 2 years 'studying the Bible' to ensure that they know what is required of them as a witness. I mean, heaven forbid that the study still has any residual 'apostate Christendom' views.
