  i had started studying with jw because i was curious about the religion because my bf then(now husband) was a witness.

  i am a very open minded person and really had i known what i know now i prob would not have been baptized.

  i always had my doubts but i really enjoyed the positive aspects that i was learning at the meetings...i studied with my mom in law.i prob shouldn't have done that because she has taken it very personal that we have stopped and even had the nerve to say i started studying to get in good with the fam!!

  it may not be the saddest but it's up there.

  "my sister's keeper" was a real tearjerker too..

  Saddest movies, non-fiction division:

  Schindler's List has already been mentioned, which brings to mind The Diary of Anne Frank.

  Then there's The Stoning of Soraya M, a tale of selfish cruelty and injustice, all the more sad because it's based on a real event.

  Everest was to be a IMAX documentary of an expedition to the top of the world, but became a memorial to eight climbers who died on the mountain.

  i don't know where he's an elder, but times have sure changed.

  All this garbage about ... just dealing with witnesses is what it is garbage. I have NEVER heard or read such crap.

  School and Jehovah's Witnesses, 1983, pg. 23:

  "They hope their young ones will want to pursue careers, not as athletes, but as ministers of God. So Witness parents encourage their children to use after-school hours principally to pursue spiritual interests, rather than to excel in some sport.

  Participation in organized sports, we believe, would expose Witness youths to unwholesome associations. ... So if Witness youths feel the need for extra recreation, their parents encourage them to seek such recreation with fellow believers, yes, 'along with those who call upon the Lord out of a clean heart.' - 2 Timothy 2:22."

  Note the underlying meanings and loaded language in this excerpt:

  • "Witness parents encourage," meaning "This is what you parents must say to your children."
  • "Extra recreation," implying that all organized sports are frivolous, a luxury.
  • "Unwholesome associations" and "those who call upon the Lord out of a clean heart," implying that non-believing team mates are not wholesome and not of a clean heart.

  nowhere has the organization said dont send your children to school.

  Watchtower, March 15, 1969, pg. 171 *

  "Many schools now have student counselors who encourage one to pursue higher education after high school, to pursue a career with a future in this system of things. Do not be influenced by them. Do not let them 'brainwash' you with the Devil's propaganda to get ahead, to make something of yourself in this world. This world has very little time left! Any future this world offers is no future! ... Make pioneer service, the full-time ministry, with the possibility of Bethel or missionary service your goal."

  Watchtower, September 1, 1975, pg. 543 *

  "No Jehovah's Witness should want to go to college. Rather, work in the Watchtower Organization!"

  "It is foolish to want to be a doctor or a lawyer."

  i never had to think about what a massive predicament it is to be watching your 6 month old alone and having a massive dump come along that you know is going to take 10-15 minutes...especially if your child is being really fussy.. -sab.

  a baby is a beutiful, innocent vulnerable little human being.

  In some places in Africa 60% of the population have aids, children born into death and suffering before they have a chance to live and no one even offers them the life prolonging drugs we have.

  Perhaps no one you know provides ARV drugs and other assistance to AIDS patients in Africa, but others certainly do. If your associates don't put Matthew 25 into action, perhaps it's time to find better associations.
