Shelby, I don't think "quarry" is too big a word to use in everyday speech. You were using the vocabulary you know, they have a vocabulary they know, and they aren't identical. If everybody accepts that and doesn't try to turn a mere difference into an offense, then we coexist peacefully. But when somebody feels threatened and wants everybody to be just like them, insults and offenses are found everywhere and in every thing--then trying to avoid any possible slight leads us to the dystopian world of Harrison Bergeron. That's no place I would want to be.

A Sincere Question...
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you have peace!.
i have a very sincere question to ask because of some recent comments i've received regarding postings on the board.
the subject is on my mind... and heart... because of two similar incidents that occurred in my life since my journey began, which i would like to relate to you.

JWs REFUSE to Reason!
by brotherdan inso last night my wife brought the situation up again and kept telling me how sorry i'm going to be for what i'm doing to our family.
i kept a mild attitude and tried to reason with her.. she refused!.
i went about it in the way that sweet baby cheezits recommended.

(BrotherDan said on another thread)
I hate that I'm making her fall out of love with me.
Don't buy into a guilt game! You didn't make her fall out of love. That's her own decision; her reply to you shows it's a conscious choice. You didn't tell her she had to choose between her husband and the Kingdom Hall, you told her she did not have to choose. That decision is between her and the Watchtower organization.

Do you trust a JW when it comes to $$$$?
by William Penwell inwell i thought there was one thing i could count on with my ex jw wife and that was she would not go back on her word.
to make a long story short, after we were separated and i signed off on the marriage, my ex gave me her word that she would not go after my pension.
well a few years later guess what?

Sorry to hear it, I know the feeling. Dividing the retirement was the worst, compared to that "who gets the house?" was easy. Serious note, can you establish that any of the retirement was vested before you got married? She may not have a claim against that part, check with your lawyer about that if you have a way to document the pre-marital portion of your retirement account.
On a less serious note, Jerry Reed says we men should learn to eat our own cooking!

TWO QUESTIONS
by snowbird in1. are your validation words getting weirder?
e.g., what is a jamstratt?.
2. when you are on a thread where posters are fighting and trading insults, how do you feel?.
-
GLTirebiter
- Yes, there are some weird ones. I push the "cycle" button until I get one that isn't too ambiguous.
- I usually avoid the "politics" threads. That eliminates about 90% of this problem. I try to walk away from the other 10%, when it gets too hot.

Do You Really Care About the People On Here?

Yes, I do. I feel we understand what we've been through. It's not something that people who haven't had a close encounter with the WT can understand or talk about. Even those I disagree with, I can understand why you say what you do. Here it's OK to disagree, and we're allowed to listen to and learn from those who don't think the same way we do.
Let's put it this way: I hope my kids will become good "apostates" like the honorable xJWs I found here.

..Are you Ready for a McWedding?...
by OUTLAW injust when you thought the world couldn`t get any tackier... .
the mcdonald's wedding packageby john farrier in business on oct 14, 2010 at 2:24 pmafter a couple met, dated, and then hosted their wedding party at a mcdonalds location in hong kong, the company began offering wedding packages in that city:.
the package has all the details to attract a wedding banquet cynic or a golden arches obsessive: a baked apple pie wedding cake, dress made out of party balloons, kiddie party favors for guests, and of course, catering by mcdonalds.. alcohol is banned to make sure there wont be drunk party guests acting inappropriately at the family venue, so newly weds will have to toast their union with soft drinks instead.. the cost will be a few thousand hong kong dollars, depending on what guests order on the spot.

It looks like most of the couples eat there frequently. Mickey D's gift certificates are great last-minute wedding gifts!

Living alone or rooming with someone
by White Dove inwhich do you prefer?.
i like having a roommate..
-
GLTirebiter
If your a girl, be careful who you tell that you live alone. A lot of creepy weird guys out there. When asked I always lied and said my dad lives with me.
Years ago, my neighbor labeled her mailbox with a male pseudonym as well as her own name. All the magazine subscriptions and junk mail listings were in that name, too. She used her imaginary SO for the very reason you mentioned, to avoid being identified as a young woman living alone.
