In general, what is the ethically correct response if a minor tells you someone is molesting him/her?
by InterestedOne ini was thinking about what the elders are trained to do versus what i personally would do if a minor confided in me that someone was molesting him/her.
i'm not sure what the ethically correct first response should be.
my first thought is to contact some kind of law enforcement that specializes in investigating situations like this with people experienced in getting to the truth of the matter.

The US departmenrt of Health and Human Services provides information about the abuse reporting laws of the various states. Mandatory reporting laws vary from place to place. Almost every state has a mandatory reporting law. Sometimes these are written to apply to "any person", not just professionals (doctors, teachers, etc.). In some states there is no clergy-penitent privilege in cases of child molestation.

Have a good Easter weekend.
by tec ini'm going to my parents for this long weekend, along with my boys, my aunt and her twin boys (same age as my oldest), and our pup.
will be a busy and bustling weekend, seeing as the basement recently flooded, so that area is now off-limits.
so for the next five days, the four and a half hour drive tomorrow is going to be the only quiet time i think i'm going to get, lol.. however, my mother is going to have a big pot of homemade chili waiting for us... and that alone would be worth the drive and the craziness :).

Have a safe trip, Tammy!
"He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, 'So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem."

SEL, please read the article Lady Lee posted on Freeminds today. The story she tells is a sad one, that many of us have lived through.

Works- question for xtians
by LV101 ini'm confused.
dr. chas.
stanley says there's absolutely nothing we can do to earn life and it's all thru acceptance of the grace of the christ and repenting of our sins.

If you have faith, you will accept the grace God freely offers. If you accept His grace, that will show in your actions.
Actions complete and complement faith. Faith that doesn't motivate good works is weak, incomplete faith: a faith lacking the love at the core of Christian teachings.
"And though I have the power of prophecy, to penetrate all mysteries and knowledge, and though I have all the faith necessary to move mountains -- if I am without love, I am nothing." (1 Cor 13:2)

How did you feel when the expression "by extension" was used when discussing scriptures?
by stillstuckcruz ini really had a hard time accepting certain scriptures as being an "extension" to modern-day jw's.
examples:.
ip-2 cp6 pg87 paragraph 87: "for gods exiled people in babylon, those words are an assurance that the promised land will not remain desolate.

It makes me feel like quoting 1 Cor 4:6, or Rev 22:18.

One line from the article (quoting a state official) says it best:
“The beneficiary’s religious preference to have a bloodless liver transplant does not meet medical necessity.”

I'm reluctant to do something drastic like cut off contact, which just seems cruel.
He's likely to do that himself, if he's a loyal Witness. When you say it's over, expect to be treated as a pariah. Beyond a mere cold shoulder, if you were to cross paths with him later it would be as though you didn't exist--especially if other Witnesses are present whom he was trying to impress with his "spirituality". Witnesses are expected to avoid "worldly"people unless absolutely necessary. If you break up with him, you become unnecessary.
when we met he was in the process of getting reinstated and kept his JW past a secret. Then when he thought he needed to bring it up, he invented this elaborate lie where a couple JWs knocked on his door and he started studying with them and thought it made sense.
Alarm bells ringing--when else is he not telling the truth? How many more, even bigger, surprises could there be if you stay with him?

Does Anyone Know How To Drain Blocked Inner Ears?
by Low-Key Lysmith ini just got over a bad sinus infection.
both of my inner ears are filled with fluid as a result.
i simply cannot get them to drain.
-
GLTirebiter
Have you tried using saline spray? It can help dilute the thick gunk and start up drainage--without the "rebound" and other side effects of decongestants.
Sometimes yawning when the plane climbs and descends will ease congested ears, but that may not be enough for a sinus infection.
