Songs that are atmospheric
by FlyingHighNow inthis is a song thread that will take a little thought.
i'd like for you to share songs that sound atmospheric and conjure up feelings of night air or a smokey room, the energy of the ocean's roar or capture the joy of a party or celebration.
the songs can be transportive and take you other places by their sound and the visuals they evoke from the stories they tell.. my first one is from tim mcgraw.

Godwin's Law of JWN---Need help naming it!
by NewChapter infirst, a definition of godwin's law:.
godwin's law (also known as godwin's rule of nazi analogies or godwin's law of nazi analogies[1][2]) is a humorous observation made by mike godwin in 1990[2] that has become an internet adage.
it states: "as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving nazis or hitler approaches 1.

How about hijacking a "theocratic" word?
Law of Old Light? Then you could hijack a net cliche too, and call them out with an "LOL"

How will Obamacare affect the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society?
by The_Present_Truth ini'm not sure if this has been addressed here or not but i've been curious as to how obamacare stands to affect the wtbts and those serving at it's branches in the usa?
has anyone looked at this?
seems the catholics are all shook up about what obamacare stands to "make" them provide their "employees".

With the Watchtower's organization structure (mostly volunteer labor that doesn't get health insurance through the organization) and practices (their services, such as they are, are directed to members) I suspect they are not worried about the HHS regulations. They don't run schools, hospitals, universities, orphanages, etc. that would be affected.

In love with a JW...
by CuriousUK inapologies if this has been discussed before, or is in the wrong forum, but i could really do with some advice.
two years ago i met the love of my life; someone i regard as my soulmate.
he is an active jw and i am a practising church of england person.

He is an active JW and I am a practising Church of England person. ... I've agreed to do a Bible Study with an open mind, but I just wish we could be together as we are, with compromises on both sides.
Has he agreed to attend Church of England services with you? Is he studying C.O.E. teachings, and open-minded about your beliefs? Are you aware of just how contemptuously the Watchtower speaks of all other religions? A one sided "compromise" is really no better than surrender.
Some do manage to survive, even thrive in a mixed Watchtower-Christian marriage, but it is a very difficult path to follow. Having been there myself, done that, and yes, paid the lawyer when things fell apart, I urge you to consider the situation most carefully.

My son is having a birthday party today
by mrsjones5 inone of his friends can't come because his mother is a jw.
i told my boy he shouldn't have said to the mother what kind of party it was.
he's just having a few friends over for food and video gaming, something his friend has done before at other "worldly" kids' house along with my son.. there will be no beheadings at this party..

Common JW phrases that aren't in the Bible
by biometrics ini'm interested to know common phrases jehovah's witnesses use, but don't actually apear in the bible (even the nwt).
especially phrases most jw's would assume are in the bible.
e.g.. "paradise earth".

Sorry, MosheLars, but you are technically incorrect.
According to Judaism 101:
Pesach, known in English as Passover, is one of the most commonly observed Jewish holidays, even by otherwise non-observant Jews...
Pesach begins on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Nissan

Donating blood
by SweetBabyCheezits inour daughter's school is having a blood drive today and me and mrs. babycheezits thought about signing up.
it's been on my bucket list i just haven't done it yet.. .
just curious if many members of jwn have donated?.
-
GLTirebiter
Yes, I donate every two months (barring current or recent illness). In the hands of a skilled phlebotomist, it's virtually painless and takes only about half an hour (most of which is filling out forms). You do have to meet the qualification standards, but if you do please donate!
