who has actually read the entire Bible?
by losingit inno matter how many times i've tried, i just couldn't get through the whole thing.
you know, there were always those reminders to read the bible, have a personal study, go out in service, and.... the other two of the five things we were supposed to do i already forgot.
so, i constantly felt guilty that i just had no interest.

"You knew what the consequences were when YOU decided to leave The Truth. This is YOUR decision and the outcome is YOUR responsibility."
by nicolaou inhow many of us have had to deal with a version of that retort?!
it's hurtful and i suspect - for some - that's partly because of the nagging feeling that our families may have a point.. but do they?.
i was 15 when i got baptised, is it reasonable that as the 50 year old man i'll be on my next birthday i continue to be held to a decision i made as a schoolboy?.

How would they react to being treated the same way? It's time for some tough love:
"YOU knew what the consequences were when YOU decided that following the Watchtower was more important than your own flesh and blood. This is YOUR decision and the consequences are YOUR responsibility. If ever YOU are ready to admit YOUR error and want to apologize and make ammends for YOUR behavior, we will be here. But we will not tolerate YOUR bad conduct."

Do e-books reproduce images?
I have many ebooks (.mobi format) with illustrations. Pen-and ink drawings (and wood cuts) reproduce well on the black-and-white Kindle e-ink display. The display does not have really high resolution, so photos will lose detail.

by Nenmco infirst, i am married, but the marriage ended 11 years ago.
no sex, no emotion, just roommates paying the bills.
i met a wonderful jw gal about a year ago and we have been friends.

What Rebel8 said: "It sounds like you are asking us to advise you on how to cheat on your wife without the mistress feeling guilty."
Your marriage may be in bad shape, but you are a married man. Behave accordingly. In other words, man up!
What can I do, and keep her secure in her faith?
If your "wonderful JW gal" really is a faithful JW, she does not want to be romantically involved with a married man. If she is found to be engaging in "loose conduct" with you, she will experience "the humiliation of that whole process", as you put it. Would you really want her to go through that? A little local gossip is all it takes to bring that on.
want to discourage me from finding some happiness
If you really are "looking for happiness", you will do it properly and honorably. Your own post shows your misgivings about this. Be honest with yourself.

Forum updates, issues and performance
by Simon infirst of all, thank you all for your patience while i made a few tweaks to the site.. i ended up actually going down a bit of a rabbit hole of updating one thing which required another thing be updated first and so on ... before i knew it i'd updated the framework platform and most of the sub-components used and then got carried away trying to do some optimizations as well.
all worthwhile though and a little overdue.. anyway, i broke a few thing along the way but i also fixed a few things too ... erm, unfortunately they didn't always quite match up so there are still a few things outstanding that i need to fix and am working on.. but, i'm hoping that dispite the short-term pain the site should now load and run just a little bit faster for you.
well, that's the intention - i'd be interested to hear how you find it.

Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT false prophets
by SloppyJoe intonight on the service meeting we discussed why jws are not false prophets.
of the ten minute part two were spent discussing that jws just had wrong expectations and only very minor changes over the years although nothing specific was mentioned.
the other eight focused on the core bible truths that have remained the same over the years.

Is (a possible) revised NWT prompted by lapsing copyright?
by slimboyfat inin the united states i gather that copyright lasts for the lifetime of the author plus 70 years.
if copyright only lasts for 70 years from publication of anonymous works, then copyright for the nwt of the christian greek scriptures would be due to run out in a few years.
watchtower leaders probably don't like the idea of others being able to publish hard copies or circulate the nwt in ebook format.

Regarding the ownership and duration for the copyright, "work for hire" is an important distinction. Since the translators are known to have been Bethelites, if the translation was part of their assigned duties for the Society (and that fact was demonstrated to the satisfaction of a court), then there is a chance that the Society would be treated as the collective author. Though either way, the copyright has not expired, so that probably makes little difference at this point.
If the alternate theory is true, that the Society discontinued the old NWT and is delaying the next release to build up anticipation and other "buzz" for the new edition, it seems to be working. It has been quite a popular topic here!

Of course not! A parent's love lasts for a lifetime, the money would soon be gone.

95% are stored in JW attics,under beds..ect..ect..
So true! I think the other 5% are still in the trunk of my ex-wife's car. The weight helps add winter traction, so they do serve some purpose.
These magazines are like junk mail
By that logic, the weekly grocery ads easily beat them. And somebody actually looks at those. Maybe the WT should print coupons in their rags.
