Reply From Co-worker - Feel Excellent Moment!
by Doubtfully Yours inso, there we all are in the break room in my place of work, and the topic turns to the holiday shopping madness.
this co-worker starts to say how expensive this holiday season has been for him and that he's still not done, and too bad when the day comes the family members will find fault or something else wrong with his gifts, and to make things worst, that the wife also was purchasing gifts with his credit card so he feared the january statement.. so, i jokingly told him that one way he can remedy that is by telling his family that he's been studying the bible and that he won't be celebrating christmas this year as he's studying to become a jw.
they all laughed loudly and the guy, second by others in the room, told me that i just didn't know how good i had it being a jw this time of the year.

by Giordano infrank was concerned that they might be dumping them in the woods or something so he wanted me to check it out.. i had a hard time convincing h and h to let me join them in service, finally i dropped a few hints that i was a pretty laid back brother who didn't always follow wtbts policy......... which wasn't far from the truth.

JW sister tells me about 1975- amnesia strikes again!
by moshe inshe came in the jw world in 1966 with her mother- she was 6 years old.
she graduated from high school in 1976. during the 90 minutes i spent with her yesterday, she mentioned that the org never said the end was coming in 1975-" it was just a few who said that and they all left after 1976- which was good- because jah needed to cleanse the kh of all who were serving with just a date in mind.. i asked her, "don't you remember the assembly talk from 1969 or 1970, where the speaker said, "stay alive until 75"- no she didn't remember.. i explained that our kh had a co tell us from the platform," brothers there is only 18 months left until armageddon- wow, she exclaimed.. i continued my story, "the po's 16 year old son quit school in 1974- to become a regular pioneer- he was held up as a fine example in the cong- and used as an example at a circuit assembly that year of someone who putting jehovah's work first.
didn't you have some who quit school to pioneer back then?".

Moshe, I'm amazed that she wasn't suspicious of your questioning. It's hilarious that you were able to pull this off.
It's really annoying to hear JW's brush off the 1975/Armaggeddon hype. My mother was studying with a pioneer around this time, she really drummed into my mother's head that 1975 was the end and that she only had a short period of time to save herself and get baptized.
The events surrounding 1975 was common knowledge to non-JW relatives, bible students, neighbors and media outlets.

What's your Black Friday shopping plan? I need ideas
by serenitynow! ini am going to loehmanns, nordstrom rack, tjmaxx, probably macys.
i'm planning on going to those places later in the day.
i'm interested in designer clothes, shoes and bags.. i also want to check out some electronics, maybe housewares.. i need some suggestions.

My hardcore JW-preteen relatives asked me to take them shopping on Black Friday, go figure.
Serenity, i think you could find some steals in the stores you listed. Macy's is having a monster sale and cardholders get an additional 20% off. Nordies will be great for shoes and bags, their clothing is meh even at the outlet. I've gotten nice bags from Loehmans in the past but my local stores are messy. I went to TJMaxx and Marshalls last night, was mostly in the houseware section. Nice stuff, no sales tho. Happy hunting!

Doubtfully Yours, I'm not Blondie but I will comment anyway.
Blondie's weekly WT reviews are open for ALL to comment on. Why don't you highlight her out of context comments and post a rebuttal on her threads? As long as you stay on topic, I'm sure she will not mind. I'm looking forward to reading what you write this week.

I can't really seek professional help. Any self-help suggestions for depression?
by easyreader1970 ini really don't have the time or the finances for a professional psychiatrist.
i know i am depressed and i know why.
the problem, as i have said before in one or two other threads, is that the solution won't really change my depression and may, in fact, make it worse.. so i am resigned to being depressed but would like to know if there are some coping techniques or other suggestions.
-
sherah
Sorry that you are dealing with this. Anyone suffering from depression or any mental illness should seek professional help from a PCP, LSW or Therapist. Barring that, there are some things that you could incorperate into your lifestyle that will make you feel better.
Journaling allows you to get your feelings out in the open, often times you already know the solution to an issue. Writing it out helps you to see it clearly.
Reading some of the books suggested on this thread.
Aerobic exercise releases endorphins, you will feel and look better. Yoga and pilates are good for the mind.
Supplements like EFA, St John's Wort, SAMe can have a mild chemical affect, not endorsed by the FDA tho.
Eliminating excessive caffein and sugar from your diet will help your mood.

Is it fashionable to wear animal print clothing? JWN ladies, do you wear that kind of stuff?
by miseryloveselders ina friend of mine made the statement that only old women wear animal print clothing.
she said this some weeks ago, and ever since i have been noticing that it is the more mature of the mature population still wearing leopard print, and zebra print fashions.
granted occasionally i see younger gals wearing that stuff too, but its usually as an accessory such as a shawl.

I like animal print in small doses to punch up an outfit, I limit it to one item in the look. My wardrobe includes leopard print ballet flats, leopard print stilletto, leopard print skinny belt, zebra print pencil skirt and leopard print scarf.
T-shirts with animal illustrations, faux fur outerwear and faux leather clothing...not feeling these at all.
