Veterans Stadium
by Little Mac ini am brand new to this forum but have spent hours over the last year on here reading and laughing a lot.
laughter is the best medicine.
i'd like to cast out a topic here- i'd love to hear what some of your thoughts were if any of you were faithful attendees at the sweltering veterans stadium assemblies over the years.

LOL@Wing Commander. You are bringing back the not-so-nice memories of DC's at the Vet. From the late 70's until the 90's, DC's were 3-4 days.
Also, all of the seats outside were horrible. You either had to deal with the hellish rays of the sun or seats in the sweltering shade. Those tarps and umbrellas only made it worse. You could catch a breeze on the ramps if you can duck the attendants.
I vividly remembered the apostates picketing the Vet, very amusing.

I also think it's local. Some of my hardcore dub relatives and friends have FB accounts and have maintained inspite the anti-social networking talks. On one hand, it's good news that they are thumbing their noses at the WTBS. The bad news is that dubs who have these accounts spy on and rat each other out. Don't friend dubs on FB, you will live to regret it.

I attended DC's at Club Vet, those were some of my the best years spent in the Borg. It was hot as he??, the seats were uncomfortable, the bathroom were dirty and few and those ramps were killer but I have nothing but good memories of those times. DC for me were never the same when they were moved to smaller, out of the way venues.

Reply From Co-worker - Feel Excellent Moment!
by Doubtfully Yours inso, there we all are in the break room in my place of work, and the topic turns to the holiday shopping madness.
this co-worker starts to say how expensive this holiday season has been for him and that he's still not done, and too bad when the day comes the family members will find fault or something else wrong with his gifts, and to make things worst, that the wife also was purchasing gifts with his credit card so he feared the january statement.. so, i jokingly told him that one way he can remedy that is by telling his family that he's been studying the bible and that he won't be celebrating christmas this year as he's studying to become a jw.
they all laughed loudly and the guy, second by others in the room, told me that i just didn't know how good i had it being a jw this time of the year.

DY doesn't respond to direct questions or requests, like Mary said she just here to reinforce her persecution complex.

Confessions of a Wayward Pioneer
by Giordano infrank was concerned that they might be dumping them in the woods or something so he wanted me to check it out.. i had a hard time convincing h and h to let me join them in service, finally i dropped a few hints that i was a pretty laid back brother who didn't always follow wtbts policy......... which wasn't far from the truth.
this guy was hard core.

JW sister tells me about 1975- amnesia strikes again!
by moshe inshe came in the jw world in 1966 with her mother- she was 6 years old.
she graduated from high school in 1976. during the 90 minutes i spent with her yesterday, she mentioned that the org never said the end was coming in 1975-" it was just a few who said that and they all left after 1976- which was good- because jah needed to cleanse the kh of all who were serving with just a date in mind.. i asked her, "don't you remember the assembly talk from 1969 or 1970, where the speaker said, "stay alive until 75"- no she didn't remember.. i explained that our kh had a co tell us from the platform," brothers there is only 18 months left until armageddon- wow, she exclaimed.. i continued my story, "the po's 16 year old son quit school in 1974- to become a regular pioneer- he was held up as a fine example in the cong- and used as an example at a circuit assembly that year of someone who putting jehovah's work first.
didn't you have some who quit school to pioneer back then?".

Moshe, I'm amazed that she wasn't suspicious of your questioning. It's hilarious that you were able to pull this off.
It's really annoying to hear JW's brush off the 1975/Armaggeddon hype. My mother was studying with a pioneer around this time, she really drummed into my mother's head that 1975 was the end and that she only had a short period of time to save herself and get baptized.
The events surrounding 1975 was common knowledge to non-JW relatives, bible students, neighbors and media outlets.
