it's been a long time since i last posted here.

most of you probably don't remember me, but i'm a non-jw who has a very dear friend that is married to a jw.

this morning my friend called me.

Thank you everyone for your replies. My friend did state in the past that he "planned" to have something put in writing that would lay out instructions for his care should something happen to him, but I gathered from our last conversation that those plans still have not been carried out. Like marriedtodamob's (ex)husband, my friend's JW in-laws are in much closer proximity to him than his own "worldly" family.

He doesn't seem to be the least bit concerned right now about the possibilities. I wish I weren't.

It's been a long time since I last posted here. Most of you probably don't remember me, but I'm a non-JW who has a very dear friend that is married to a JW.

This morning my friend called me. During the course of our conversation, the topic of blood transfusions was raised. I asked him if his JW wife still carried her blood card, and he said yes. I then asked him if he knew what she would do should she ever be in a position of having to authorize a transfusion for him. He said he didn't know. That frightened me.

I have been reading about the official policy the WTS has on blood transfusions and to say that I find it confusing would be putting it mildly. Some sources say that it is a "matter of concience", while others say that it's still forbidden and a disfellowshipping offense. I've also read that some "components" of blood are acceptable while others aren't. What I haven't been able to locate anywhere is what obligation a JW spouse has to deny a transfusion authorization for a non-JW spouse. Are they required to do that? CAN they do that? I know of at least one instance where a JW wife ordered that her non-JW husband not receive a blood transfusion after he was critically injured in an auto accident, and he died. I worry that something like this could happen to my friend. Can it?

Has there been a policy change?

my mother told us last night that her po told her we are disassociated.

no announcement was made.

she is upset, and i told her i would call him.. at first she didn't want me to do that, but later changed her mind.. so, i left a message on his answering machine.he will call me.........he always returns my calls.

It will make it very difficult for my mother............and other family members if it is true. Also, my best friend is a witness. So far, she is able to associate with me, without too much problem. This will complicate all our lives.

This is something I really don't understand. I've read here and at other JW sites that JWs aren't supposed to associate with DF'd or non-Witnesses. I have never been JW, but my best friend is one. I had known her for two years before I found out. She attends meetings regularly (I know not to call her on Tuesday and Thursday evenings), but she does not go out banging on doors. She is married to a Catholic. While she was dating her husband she would refuse to hold hands with him, or otherwise touch him in any way when they were in areas of the city where she thought they might run into a member of her congregation. On at least one occasion they were seen having lunch together by a sister. When the sister later questioned my friend about the "association", my friend told the sister that they were co-workers (technically true) and were only discussing "business". She would not reveal the true nature of their relationship to any JWs until she announced her engagement. I would never confront my friend with this question, but why would anyone want to belong to a religion where normal day to day living requires them to lie and sneak around?

Letter from society

after the wt study yesterday, the conductor read a letter from the society about the subscriptions.

i knew that they had cancelled the subscriptions to the magazines, but now they have discontinued almost all forms of subscriptions, i.e.

watchtower/awake on tape, large print wt, etc.

Now that the Watchtower has reached marketing critical mass and in the efforts of maintaining assets for the long haul, the need for less incriminating forms of revenue generation supersede the once lucrative method of volume in house publication sales (donations).

I've been wondering about this for quite some time now. I live in an area that must be in the crosshairs of two congregations as I get visited by JWs at least twice a year, sometimes more. Usually I'll get a copy of a WT or Awake out of the visit, though last year I managed to obtain a Knowlege Book. The last two times, however, I haven't been home when the JWs came by. I knew they had stopped at my house because I found a pamplet introducing JW believes in my mailbox. The pamplet was very small and cheap looking, couldn't have cost more than pennies to print. I thought at the time that the WT must be cutting back on magazine publications to save money (and face). Looks like I was right.

Alot of JW's I have talked to sincerly believe that the internet is satans latest and most effective tool.

I've found this to be true as well. One of my best friends is an "active" (attends meetings) JW, but though she leads a double life by breaking many JW taboos, she insists that the Internet is "evil" and won't use it unless she has to. Yet she's married to a non-JW software engineer who specializes in web applications. Go figure.

Shock encounter for the Apostle...

i was waiting for a bus to get back to my house 3 days ago and guess who drove past in a car???

the first jw i ever studied with and who got me in to "the truth" (he's the same age as me, 24) .

he was driving a nissan sylvia (sports car...no-no 4 jw's) and he had his left eyebrow pierced.... i wonder what his story is??.

That's interesting about JWs not being allowed to have sports cars. I have a JW friend who has owned a red Camero for at least four years and her JW brother had it for two years before that.

I'm not JW, so out of curiosity, WHY aren't JWs supposed to have sports cars and what happens to them if they are discovered with one in their possession?

Of all the responses, I think JT's most closely resembles Diane. Before I knew she was JW we were having lunch together on the patio of our company cafeteria when somebody walked by with an "I Gave Blood" sticker on his shirt. Our company was having a blood drive that day and I had planned on donating, but the Bloodmobile had already left. I said something to the effect of, "Damn! I forgot!" Diane looked at me as though I had just grown horns. She told me she would never donate blood or accept a transfusion because it was "dirty". I thought she meant she was afraid of blood transfusions because of the risk of blood transmitted disease and didn't persue the matter.

She has indeed been concentrating on getting her career (two college degrees and a six figure salary) and personal life in order, but she's also living a double life. If she ever falls off this tightrope she's walking I'm afraid she'll take Jack with her.

Hi everyone! Some of you may remember me from the old H20 board. At that time I was posting because a very close friend of my family was seriously dating a JW and I had questions. Well, my friend and the JW were married early this year and I still have questions.

The wedding had well over 200 guests in attendance and I knew most of them, meaning there were extremely few JWs. I counted only five, the bride and her immediate family. Alcohol flowed like water at the reception, and the bride observed all of the wedding traditions, including tossing the bouquet, which I understand JWs aren't supposed to do. The only concession I noticed to her JW-ness was the fact that the wedding ceremony was conducted by a judge and was held in a ballroom.

About a month ago Jack and Diane finished moving into their new home and threw a house warming party. Again, I knew almost everyone there and most of them were members of Jack's family. Diane's parents were there, but they were the only people I was certain were JW. Needless to say I was very relieved about this because it indicated that Diane had likely left the Org and the JW influence on Jack was minimal. Or, so I thought.

Recently I received an email from Diane that indicated she's still very much a JW. She said she didn't believe she would ever die. Isn't that a core JW belief, that "this system of things" will end and JWs will live on a Paradise Earth? I'm not quite sure what to make of this as I was under the impression that partying and celebrating with worldly people was enough to get one DF'd. Am I wrong? Or, is it possible to leave the Org and still maintain the faith? I'm confused. If somebody could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it.
