hi, prisca,.
i am norm, and i am new here.. .

No, that was Normie, a totally different person.
Nice try Jan, but we all know Norm hasn't really left the Tower yet, and sometimes he expresses true feelings about "the Truth." That must be a source of national embarrassment to the folks in Norway, but you'll just need to get over it and stop making excuses for Norm. (This is beginning to feel like the old philia group.)
Welcome to the db Jan, nice seeing you again.

do 3 wrongs make a right?
the comments about lot and his daughters made me remember another quite interesting story from the bible, this one:.
*** rbi8 *** 22 while they were making their hearts feel good, look!
Norm,
One thing we should all count ourselves fortunate for, we live here and now, not back then. It is quite strange isn’t it? This is the society all Jehovah's Witnesses and their fundamentalist brothers long back to and hope will come back in the near future.
Yeah, it makes me want to sing, "Give Me that Old Time Religion." When some groups believe God is on their side, they're commit some of the worst atrocities and feel righteous about it. Common sense, common decency, and common fairness is put on hold when folks become "True Believer(s)" in the manner Eric Hoffer addresses in his book.
Of course we have ways of slaughtering countless people today without splattering blood on our designer clothing by dropping a bomb or pushing a button. For the less aggressive we have laws and lawyers willing to disembowel at the going rates between $150 to $600 per hour. "True Believer(s)" transform themselves into many roles, some religious, some political, and lets not forget the victims of corporate greed. The isms of the past were less sophisticated than today's isms in destroying others. However religious murder seems more obscene because of hiding behind the face of a deity.
The Watchtower prays that over 5 billion will soon be murdered, which dismantles my theory of today's sophistication in killing.

Hey Norman,
I see the Norwegians are starting trouble again! Yeah, we have a few rules that Kent and you need to follow. I'm not sure what they are yet, but stay tuned to this channel and I'll keep you posted. These rules will only apply to you, and Kent. Well, I'll add AlanF to the list too because he knows you, and can't be trusted either.
Hey I thought of a rule; you guys need to limit the size of each post to the size of each copy of The Watchtower. That's right--keep it down to 32 pages (the perfect spiritual food package size). There you go Brother Norman; now you have all of the rules. Go forth and spread cheer (or whatever)!

if you are an ex-witness, regardless of the reasons that you left, did you also rebel against your creator as well as the wtbts?
or did you just feel that jw`s didn`t have the truth, but that you were quite happy to go on believing in god, albeit accepting that your idea of god was now somewhat different?.
according to the watchtower, by leaving the jw`s, you have rebeled directly against god.
Englishman,
That's a good point, and something I've wondered about, too. If I was the Creator, and if I wanted the human species to worship me, and I was going to hold them accountable to worship me in the correct way--I would have a better plan than the contradictions and confusion we experience in the name of religion. We have all of these religious groups banging on their holy books, and on anyone disagreeing with them. My religion is better than your religion, and to hell with anyone saying differently. "God is love," but you'll become bird food if you don't believe like I believe!
If there is a Creator who wants to be worshiped, I'm sure he could do better than that. Perhaps there is a Creator who is not interested in our theology, and doesn't need, require or want to be worshiped. If that's true, it might explain why the Creator is letting the dust fall where it falls after the system is put into place. That I can understand, and it answers many unanswered questions for me.

Englishman,
To turn against God, you have to believe in his existence! And, if you believe he exists, who would be dumb enough to turn against him? This, surely, has to be one of the greatest oxymorons of all time.
I think there is a difference between "to turn against God" compared to admitting you don't know if there is a God. When we get right down to it, we can't really prove God exists. It's a matter of faith. That doesn't mean He/She doesn't exist, nor does it mean one is "against God" because one is honest enough to say, "I really don't know."

dear all.
i'm a new chap here, one of the old h2o refugees who seem to have been streaming to this place recently.. englishman suggested i post my "christmas shopping" post as a kind of introductory-hi-and-how-are-you.
hope you like it, despite it not being terribly seasonal at the moment.. i'll look forward to posting here in the future (original stuff i mean, not just reheated "greatest hits" like this).
Duncan,
Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the db.

Kent and others,
Take a look at the "Will Swingle R.I.P. here too?" topic Gianluca just put up. It's got some great photos of Russell's tombstone, and check out the name of the cemetery! Maybe this link will take you there: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=3394&site=3

i wonder if the latest gb member that died will be buried in this location??.
i sure was suprised when i first saw these photos!!!.
gianluca
Gianluca,
How interesting, Russell's tombstone. Somewhere I have a picture of me and a few other JWs standing by it. I think that was in the early 1970s when I attended the Kingdom Ministry School in Pittsburgh. Wow, this photo brings back memories.
I didn't remember it was in a Masonic Center Cemetery--that's very interesting, don't you think? Of course the pyramid tombstone says a lot about the history of the Tower, too.

those of us who have frequented h2o and have otherwise encountered our fundie friends from the usa have many times been reminded of their strange arguments and ideas.
all of them seem to long back to biblical times and particularly the times of the old testament.
they have got the idea that those days were so wonderful when everybody was adhering to biblical morals, values and such.

The late Steve Allen was a Secular Humanist.
Yes, he was a great thinker.
