When you're in the printing business, it's all about numbers. Love is doing something without counting the times you do it.

Turning in time reports monthly-
by JohnHag inif a jw has to turn in a time report each month then it seems like compulsion--when is it out of love that one goes out into service?

Explain you religion/beliefs in a nutshell
by devinsmom inlately i have been pondering my lack of a belief system.
i think that being a jw really turned me off to believing in anything since it was all crammed down my throat.. i have been feeling a need to believe in something.
i think i believe that something created us but not sure if it was one god or many.

So, I DO beleave in the nutshell.
Good one Steve!
I'm sure there is some good in some religions, and it's easy for me to overlook that as an ex-Witness. However, many of the less controlling religions are still willing to paint others as evil, sinners, or weak because of their skin color, country of origin, gender, sexual preferences, who you voted for, and the list goes on.
I'm an agnostic, which means I know that I don't know about the reality of God or Higher Power. I'm very happy with that. Unitarianism is a religion that stresses individual freedom of belief -- as long as it's liberal. :) If you're looking for a religious community without the trappings of dogma, that might be a good place to start.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
by whyamihere inas a child, what did you want to be, when you became an adult?
if you could, would you want to go back in time, and become what you wanted to be in the first place?.
as a child, i wanted to be a florist.

As a young person I wanted to be a high school teacher. I'm not sure why because I failed nearly every class in grade school. Somehow I got my act togehter and did okay in high school, but jumped into the crazy cult instead of going to college in 1965. I worked in all kinds of jobs until I started to question the Tower. Not long after that I took a few college classes when I was 38. While in college I found out I'm dyslexic, and worked to deal with it while finishing college.
I didn't become a high school teacher -- I went to the dark side and work at a college. -

Does Devil Talk Irritate You?
by love2Bworldly ini enjoy reading the bible on my own since i left the jw's.
i get extremely irritated when other people talk to me about how satan is causing certain things in my life--example is if i'm not getting along with a coworker or anything like that.
(my husband also blames satan).

Devil talk irriates me, but then again--willful ignorance always irritates me. :)
So, why wasn't I irritated with myself when I was a JW? So many questions, so little time . . . -

The Watchtower Society got one thing right with large signs the dubs held up outside of churches on Sunday mornings--"Religion is a Snare and a Racket." Fear-based religions "snare" followers into believing that there is a loving God, but like an abusive spouse, he'll beat the crap out of you, even kill you, if you don't shut up and do what you're told. That's the "racket."
The "fear of the big A" is a sign--it's a sign that you've been in an abusive religion. Anyone in a relationship with another that threatens to harm and/or kill them if they don't follow the rules, is a victim of domestic violence. It's a crime in most developed countries. Fear-based religions are nothing more than a spouse that gets drunk on power, and pulls out a gun or fist to show they mean business.
The Watchtower Society is just another fear-based cult using intimidation, and shunning to enslave followers. It has become drunk on power, and uses "the big A" Hobgoblin to scare the hell out of followers. Exiting the Tower of Doom helps, and it can take a little time before one stops whistling in the dark because of fear. The next time you think about "the big A," think about the abusive cult that planted that seed. Think about domestic violence, and think about the Watchtower Society!

Sharp dressed men, or thanks WTS.....
by bikerchic in.....yeah thanks to all the men in my (past wts) life!.
i've recently started working for a big department store and was hired to work in the men's department.
i've found that my years of being a jw has finally paid off because if there is one thing i learned being a jw is how sharp dressed men dress and yes some of those elders could really put on the nines!.

Okay bikerchic -- I usually wear pleated pants at the office, and I'm very liberal (on most things). Do I fit the profile of dressing to the left or right? :)

JW love in action: JWs fail to inform me when roommate of two years dies
by seattleniceguy inwhen i was a witness, i shared a house with an elder/pioneer named herb.
herb was in his eighties, and he had paid off his two-bedroom house long ago, so he would offer the extra bedroom to local brothers.
it was a good deal, and herb got some company at the house, so everyone benefited.. for being in his eighties, herb was exceptionally fit.

Many years ago the CO and I were going over the congregation records at the start of his visit. An older brother that served a lifetime as a JW died a few weeks before the CO's visit, and his service record was still in the file. The CO wanted to know why he didn't report time during the past month, and I told him he died. Without a word, the CO dropped the service record of this old faithful brother into the trash can. He didn't say he was sorry about his passing or anything else. Just a file in the trash can! After our meeting I pulled the record from the trash and gave it to the old brother's spouse later that week.
As already stated in this thread, if you're not attending meetings and goose-stepping to the Tower, you don't exist. They say that dead men don't talk, but I think they speak volumes about the so-called love fostered by the Watchtower Society and their followers.
I'm sorry about the losses many have had, and your treatment. Indeed, the Watchtower Society is known for "its' works." -
