New and need a question answered before I post any other questions
by soundbox_guy inokay, first off, let me get this straight...you guys are all witnesses, some all active, some do things all the way right, some don't do things all the way right?
some are by the book but not preachy, and some are witnesses that are rogue and do things their own way?
i just want to know before i post any doubts or concerns or anything because even though i know we're supposed to stay away from places like this on the internet, i don't want what i say somehow getting back to my congregation somehow and next thing you know 4 elders come busting through the door waving "no blood" cards and shouting "freeze, jehovah's witnesses!

From May 1984 to December 1986, Ronald E. Frye put out a monthly newsletter called, "The Christian Respondent." It was a balanced newsletter that addressed JW issues, usually from a current "Watchtower" or "Awake!" from a Christian point of view. Ronald was a former JW of many years, and I know his newsletter was helpful to Witnesses and non-Witnesses alike. At that time he lived in Medford, MN.
Did anyone on this forum receive his newsletters? Does anyone know what happened to Ron? -

Name Some Trivial Things That Are Big Deals To JWs
by minimus inso many things come to mind to show how silly jws sound in reality.
for example, being allowed to pass the microphones is a big deal, especially to a young brother.
or being given the "privilege" of cutting the grass or working on a "quick-build" is really something special to a jw.

ha Haaa----we had lunch with Grant Suiter of the GB.
Grant Suiter's sister was married to the PO in our congregation. He would visit from time to time, and whenever we had something special going on, Suiter was our star for the day. I believe Suiter was in charge of finances for the Tower, but Knorr ran the show.

4-door cars. God help the brother wanting to become a MS or elder if they buy a 2-door car. You can't sell magazines without a 4-door model.

by badboy in.
i understand that constantine the great banned them because they were eaten at pagan festivals.. in view of the pagan connection, should jws eat sausages?

I think anyone who has eaten as much crow as the Witnesses have, should be allowed to eat sausage. . . it's only fair.

JV -- I don't know how you can sit through 2 hours of total boredom. I think I would rather hear chalk scraping on a blackboard for 2 hours than a 2-hour JW meeting. However, I enjoyed your post--thanks!

Does anyone know anything about Box Turtles?
by Billygoat inshe found it in the middle of the road and took it home to her backyard so it wouldn't get run over.
but her blind golden retreiver, shasta, would always put her mouth around the shell and bring him into the house.
so my mil would be walking around her home and would find a turtle in the middle of the kitchen...or hidden in the shoes of her closet.

I had one or two of them outside our house when I was a kid a zillion years ago. They love to eat grapes. As to concerns about salmonella, EvilForce is right. However, I never fed them salmon, which seemed to help. :))
This reminds me of a book study story. The family had several kids and various pets, one being a large Box Turtle. From time to time the Box Turtle would lumber into the room during the book study and slowly crawl across the floor. It was one of my best book study memories. :) -

THIS IS IT -- JWs are a Legal Concept
by JAVA inthere is a legal concept called, "femme couverte," which means upon marriage, a woman is absorbed into the person of her husband.
the 18-century british scholar sir william blackstone said, "the very being of legal existence of the woman is suspended during the marriage, or at least is incorporated and consolidated into that of the husband, under whose wing, protection, and cover she performs everything.
when i read this i thought, that's what happens to a jw when they get baptized.

JT -- As always, I enjoy your comments and ideas. At the end of each Lone Ranger episode someone would always ask, "Who is that masked man?" To one degree or another, most of us put up a persona for the outside world to see. I guess we do it without thinking because it's an unspoken expectation. We become so good at it that it's possible (maybe probable) to forget or never know our very own essence. As we ride off into the sunset will others ask, "who is that masked man" or will they even think to ask the question?
Maybe it's more important that WE ask that question about OURSELVES. Dropping the mask of "I'm a Jehovah Witness" can leave one standing on unchartered ground, and finding the person within might seem daunting. It's frightening to look into the mirror and not know who's looking back. The mask is safe; we know it, and what to expect from it. Taking it off is a journey without a map, and I might get lost--forever! It could also be a way of finding myself and still being lost forever. God knows I enjoy the History Channel and reading biographies. :)
BTW, the picture used in your post is very interesting. It's better than a thousand words.
