Keep track of the number of times "guilt" and/or "fear" is used to:
- increase hours
- increase meeting attendance
- increase ways of "reaching out" in congregation
Keep track of the number of times you are encouraged to be like Jesus and show "kindness to all."

Were you ever ashamed of another JW?
by JH in.
in the field service, i was going door to door with an elder, and he couldn't stop spitting on the ground every now and then..... .
once at a ball park, i saw a 75 year old ms watching a ball game, and he took napkins to wipe his bench because it rained and it was wet, so he wipped his bench and threw all the napkins on the grass instead of walking to the garbage can about 30 feet away...

We had a Cir.O. named Harold Wright (anyone out here have him) who was a real jerk, and very cheap. While out in service he went into barber shop and the barber didn't have customers at that time. He told the barber he wanted a hair cut but wanted a reduced rate because the guy wasn't doing anything. The barber said no, so Harold offered him the mags. I was really ashamed of being with him, and being a JW.
Here's another event, but different JW: My spouse and I were out in service Saturday morning with an older couple. After service we went to a restaurant with large windows that faced the front of the building, and we parked in front right by the windows. Before getting out of the car the old brother said, "Does anyone want a little drink before going in?" He pulled out a bottle of whisky, took a swig and passed it to his spouse. Yep--we then walked into the restaurant for lunch. I'll never forget the looks we got from several customers. Oh yeah--I had to go back and add this: When lunch arrived he said a prayer at the table!

A 1975 story
by TooBad TooSad inwhile i was in high school in the mid 60's i was told that the end was so near that i would not get to graduate from high school so i should not be concerned about being drafted due to the war in vietnam.
well i got drafted but did not pass my physical due to a medical problem.. i then considered go to school in the late 60's to enter the medical field.
i was encouraged by the elders not to do this because the end is so near and why get schooling for a profession that you will not need in a few years?

Topics like this brings out the old timers. :) Anyone saying the Tower didn't push the 1975 date is lying. Like many who have already posted, I was very active from the mid '60s to the early '80s. I witnessed firsthand how the $ociety blamed their failure on the JWs foolish enought to believe them.
During a district assembly in Cincinnati, Ohio in '72 or '73, one speaker said, "Anyone starting a 4-year college program today will not graduate before Armageddon." I was in one of the dramas during that assembly, and our entire drama group talked about that comment the following night.
The 1975 failure is only one of many lies the Tower has tried to cover-up. The Internet is a tool they can't control as their lies are held to the light of truth. -

Why can't you just move on?
by atypical inthat's what my wife said to me the night before last.
i was making an observation about the way my family and other jws in my life are constantly trying to get me to go to a meeting or read an awake, but they never want to sit down and address the questions i have raised to them.
she then asked me why i can't just move on.

When JWs want to know "why can't you just move on" they're hiding the real issue at hand, and that is "why do you question my religion?" They spend 10 or more hours a month asking others to question their religion, but can't allow others to question them.
It's much easier to "move on" when exiting most religious communities, but cults like JWs hold family and life-time friends hostage, thus the "moving on" thing is very difficult. An honest look into the fear and control of the group answers the question about "moving on," but of course JWs can't allow themselves to go there. It is far to easy to blame the victims of the Watchtower (i.e., "why can't you just move on?") than to honestly answer questions about their religion of fear and control.

I love photos like that -- it's more honest than the Tower's spin-photos. The two attached photos were taken last summer during a get-together in Dayton, Ohio.

religion... science...atheism...religion
by jaffacake insomeone on a recent thread observed that jwism seems to be a route to atheism.
but many other religions fail people too after which atheism appears to be the most plausible answer.
driving to work last week i heard thought for the day on my car radio, which made a link between religion & atheism.

“Most of the people in this world believe that the Creator of the universe has written a book. We have the misfortune of having many such books on hand, each making an exclusive claim as to its infallibility . . . however: ‘respect’ for other faiths, or for the views of unbelievers, in not an attitude that God endorses.”
“The idea that any one of our religions represents the infallible word of the One True God requires an encyclopedic ignorance of history, mythology, and art even to be entertained.” (pages 13, 16) “The End of Faith” by Sam Harris.
I'm reading 3 or 4 books at this time, and the above quotes came into mind when I read this thread.
