Isn't the tie a phallic symbol
by hippikon ini seem to remember reading somewhere that the tie is a phallic symbol.

I attended a lecture by Bishop Spong about a year ago. After the lecture we talked for several minutes, and I found him an interesting scholar that has been a pain in the side to many religonist.
As I was leaving he inquired of my religious background. When I told him he said, "The Watchtower has done a better job than any atheist group I know of in turning their children into atheists." He wasn't putting down atheists thinking by the comment, it was just his reflection about the Witnesses.

Doom and despair.
by Norm inwarning!
to all of you, who live in the awful illusionary realities of the watchtower world, where everything has gotten so much worse since 1914, will hate the following information so i recommend all faithful jehovah's witnesses not to read any further as this could seriously harm your ability to maintain the doom and gloom mindset so carefully projected into your minds by the watchtower literature and at the meetings.
statements like this:.

Norm,
You always see the glass as half full, backing it up with flimsy evidence like “The World Health Report 1998." We all know The Watchtower is the final authority on these matters because worldly resources are controlled by Satan. The Devil roams the world seeking to devour us by adding years to our lives. This is what The Watchtower means when saying, "The effects of dealing with the realities of this 20th century can be profound..."
The Tower is bewildered and depressed dealing with these realities.
SlavesBrothers are living longer in the Tower'ssweat shopsfactories and not dying at age 50 like they did in the good old days. The older brothers are not working as hard, which is Satan's plan of slowing down Jehovah's important work of selling magazines. The Society is still depressed that Jehovah didn't murder non-members of their club in 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975 etc., but now they're dealing with the bad news of people living longer! Indeed, The Watchtower finally got a prediction right when saying, "It is terrifying (for the Watchtower Society) to face the fact(s)..."--JAVA

by stephenw20 inthat the wtbts has a major hit....they have to stop printing..... major set back.......... well maybe...but ya know with the involvement in bloodless surgery, they may have created a captive audience upon which to operate....... see this.
http://www.humed.com/bloodless.html.
now it was nice that the hospital donated those six machines.......... wonder where the new ones came from?.

JAVA
stephenw20,
The Tower replaces the fear of hell fire with the born-again fear of displeasing the Watchtower Society. It works as millions labor without pay to enrich the largest tax-free publishing firm in the world while neglecting the wellfare of their own families. No, I don't know another despot that does it as well the Watchtower Society.

The "Ransom Sacrifice" short version.
by Norm inin the christian part of the world not many of us have escaped the much hyped and published sacrifice christ supposedly made when the romans executed him.. i myself was going around for years parroting this strange concept without giving it much thought.
thinking and faith some times do not mix very well.. anyway, apparently god made a royal blunder when he created the first humans and they plunged mankind into death and despair first crack out of the box, while god stood by and watched helplessly.
then we are told that god for this reason, in his infinite wisdom took mankind for ransom for thousands of years.

JAVA
aChristian,
I find it incredible to think that an all-powerful, extremely wise God would put Himself into a "catch-22" situation that forces Him into having His perfect son murdered! I don't claim being the smartest person on the block, but if there is a God, I believe He/She has a few more scoops of raisins than that.
I'm not discounting the topic of God aChristian, but I think "the incredibly high standards of a perfect God" is greatly diminished when human sacrifice is His best plan.

Another great post Norm!
I see the Spirit is working in you again. All civilized nations have laws against human sacrifice, but we have a different set of rules if God acts less than human--go figure! If God allowed his son to be murdered because He "so loved the world," it's little wonder JWs pray for the day when God will really show His love by murdering over 5 billion people. Eating the wrong fruit or not selling The Watchtower gets us in big trouble.

Alan,
Who are you?
I was on the philia list before it became a list serve when the members cc each other. That must have been 5 or 6 years ago. In fact you invited me to the list, there might have been 12 or 18 on it at that time. I was doing grad work then, and just found the Internet--in the days before windows! Norman and friend stopped by our place in Dayton for a day when he was in the States a few months ago.

Gianluca,
The three essential human freedoms:
The first is freedom of speech and expression.
The second is freedom of conscience.
The third is freedom from fear.
How about adding a forth essential: Freedom from religion.--JAVA, counting time at the Coffee Shop
