Welcome to the forum Harpy. I'm sure you'll meet many here that share similar backgrounds, and understand the "guilt" trip ex-members experience. It doesn't take long to understand how it happened, and what to do with it.
Nice seeing you (okay you've been loved-bombed, and everyone here is perfect--just like at the Kingdom Hall)! -

I love it -- the new logos are more honest than the Tower's.
Years ago I did a little flyer called "Awaken!" and "The WhatTower." Your top graphic would have been a great masthead for "The WhatTower." -

Something funny I heard on Howard Stern
by TweetieBird ini was listening to howard stern this morning and robin mentioned that someone approached her with the watchtower.
she told the jw that she was not interested, he asked her if she had ever read the watchtower.
she said yes, he asked her what she thought about it and i loved her reply...she said that she thought that she never wanted to read another one.

Thanks for sharing this TB -- it's a riot!
The Tower wants the rank-n-file to think the world is out to get them for various noble reasons. Stuff like this shows what the world really thinks--the religion is a joke.

calling all young single men
by devinsmom inwew, well my divorce is finally...final, as of today and what a long hard road it has been, and unfortunatly more hardships are to come, since we have a child together.
my ex tried to delay it just yesterday by faxing a sloppy handwritten note to the judge, to tell him he couldnt make it because he doesnt have a license,(suspended for dwi) and hasnt attended any of the hearings at all.
he owes me over $5,000 for child support (deadbeat dad).

I'm not young, not single, and when I feel "hot" it's usually my inter-child playing with matches. However, congrats on winning your long-hard battle, and to your dad for being there, too.
Now let the games begin!

Most JW funerals in the US are nothing more than an info-mercial for the Tower, and very little is said about deceased. Your experience is different from the funerals I attended.
I'm sorry your friend died and your loss. You set an example the JWs couldn't ignore. I wonder how they would have treated the df-waitress if you were not there? Also, I wonder if they would have treated her differently if she wasn't there as a waitress?

A lot of the suits I see in the local circuit were probably handed down directly from father to son for at least three generations. A family heirloom for sure.
I was real new at the KH, and didn't have much $$$ when one of the first new suits I bought cost $19.95. (No kidding) That was in 1965, and I was around 19. Now that I think of it, I had one of those clip-on ties, too.

I've got a going-to-the-meeting cheap polyester suit and tie I'll trade. The seat of the trousers are very shinny from hours of sitting at the spiritual-feed bag.

Apostates' Idealised Image of their Time as a Witness
by slimboyfat ini know some apostates become bitter and can see nothing good in their time spent as witnesses, but i am not talking about that kind of apostate.
i am talking about the other kind of apostate who tends to idealise certain aspects of their time in the witnesses.
what motivates such sentiments i wonder?

It's not that unusual hearing people talk about "the good old days." I guess it's easy to remember the good, and not accent the not so good. When I was new in the Tower, and thought everyone at the KH was kind, and had everyone's best interest at heart--those were good times for me.
As time went on, the blinders came off. The good times turn into okey times, to bad times, and finally into abusive times. My "good old days" lasted about 6 to 8 months.

Personal "God" and self-representation
by Narkissos init is commonly assumed that monotheism, in its jewish, christian and moslem forms, resulted in (or was related to) a specific development of human self-representation.
before a unique creator and judge the individual had to stand as an indivisible unit (e.g.
the "soul" in the middle ages) which was either justified or condemned, either saved or lost.

In line with the theme of the thread we might ask when God died for you(whomever), did the death of transendentalism die for you and did that make you more tolerant or less tolerant of diversity?
It seems that JT and I are not only in different pews, but different churches by injecting Transcendentalism thinking into the discussion. The idea that the mind can apprehend spiritual truths directly without the influence of our senses, and institutions (like religion) is not something I can say I've experienced. The God of the WT died for me not too long after exiting the sect. I believe the loss of that god has made me (and perhaps most of us) more tolerant of diversity. However, as can be seen from other posts, my thinking is more in line with the philosophy of Locke, and less like Immanuel Kant and Emerson. On the other hand my mind enjoys reading Emerson, but I don't think that puts me in the Transcendental camp.
Sorry JT, I didn't pick that up, and thanks Siddhashunyata for the clarification.
