  A comment my Mom made

  mom and i were discussing some recent books on the catholic church, and mom said that supposedly the catholic church was holding some major secrets on the bible and that if the catholic people were to ever find out, they would literally destroy the catholic church and there would be rioting in the streets.

  i told mom, "look at all of the children who have died from no blood, look at all of the people who forsook college education, look at all of the families destroyed, look at all of the children molested, look all of the lies of the wt society, and yet the wt society still flourishes, the catholic church would probably get through that too".

  she just told me that they would tear that church apart.

  The Roman Catholic Church is the oldest Christian church, and as such, it has a lot of dark history. When you think about it, much of its history reflects the values of the time to one degree or another. Each period of time reflects different attitudes and values, and religion as a whole is pulled into the next century with a lot of stuff they would rather not talk about when looking at the past. When you’ve been around as long as the Catholic Church, it’s easy to look back and say, “Oh my God, how could they have done that?” The answer is fairly easy; the Catholic Church is a man-made organization with the same morals and values of the times. It’s nothing more than a man-made organization (no matter what they claim) as is all religion. We get into trouble when we take religion religiously. Religion is a myth that tries to explain what we can’t prove. When myth is viewed as truth, we usually end up with many dark secrets in the closet. Enlightened folks are not going to tear the church down; they simply move on. Other folks that need to turn myth into truth will always need a church—and the beat goes on.

  i was adopted into a jw family in southern california.

  my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).

  she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.

  YES--I remember YK, and went round and round with him several times. He was a jerk then, and after watching the link to Robert King, I can see that nothing has changed . . . except that he's making $$$ from the "sky-is-falling" crowd.

  I gave Blood today...

  As already stated -- Way to go, zeroday!
  Giving blood is a great way to help others and it's a sign that the Watchtower Society has no control over a person doing good things. We can now count the number of units given instead of the hours required by a cult.

  I saw the video some years ago, and it was interesting seeing it again. I enjoyed seeing the interviews, and the information about the early history of the Tower was well done. The message of leaving the Tower and accepting Jesus was a turn off for me--but to each their own.
  Thanks for the link--it was worth while seeing again!

  I got stung by those little guys a few years ago while swimming at Daytona Beach. Jellyfish might like me, but I don't like them. However, if they start saying JAVA prayers, I might allow them to live. :)

  Does god NEED others to pray for a person?

  I have a small fish tank at home and I feed the fish, clean the water, and try to make it pleasant for the little guys swimming around in the tank. I don't need to have fish prayers in order to do the right thing for the fish. I'm the one who set the tank up, and if I let it get dirty or don't feed them because the fish didn't say their little prayers thanking me--what does that say about me?

  Most people recover from sickness, so whoever prays for them thinks they had something to do with their recovery, after all didn't they get better. When they die they just think God had other plans.

  No matter the outcome, it's God's will. This reminds we of right-wing religionist supporting George Bush; no matter what the facts show, he's doing God's will.

  Seems to me that the study, in order to gain any accurate, unbiased info, would have been a double blind experiment.

  Good point Robdar; of course some people may not appreciate others praying for them. I think those who believe in prayer might not wish to be in a study unless they were certain they were getting prayers. There goes the double blind . . .

  The group receiving prayers in this study had slightly more post-op complications than the group not receiving prayers. If the study had different results, I think we would have been seeing more about it in the US media.
