Where did England disappear to?
by dorayakii inengland is the oldest nation-state in europe.
it is a pround and historic nation that is often buried under a "british" identity by the uk government.
within the european unon, scotland and wales are treated as regional entities, yet england is broken up into 6 regions and is not acknowledged as an entity in itself.

How dangers is field service really, has anyone ever heard of someone being hurt or killed while doing some form of witnessing
by life is to short inok my other thread was not totally what i was after.
after thinking it through i was wondering if any of you have ever heard of someone being hurt by a householder in field service.. .
like i mentioned in my latest thread about the sister who was murdered and then her death was blamed on her.. i know in the hall i grew up in there were many sex offenders living in the area.

Aside from dog bites I never knew of anyone who was physically harmed in FS...but the bulk of my time wasted in that futile pursuit was mainly in the 70's and dog leash laws weren't as common back then. Also the drug infested areas hadnt yet really cropped up.
I have, however had the inestimable priviledge a few times of having a door answered by an uninhibited individual wearing nothing but a grin.
Could have been psychologically damaging to some, I suppose...

Training us better to talk to people at the doors.
by life is to short inok so many of you did not mind sitting and wasting time in a car while out in service because it beat banging on doors and trying to convince someone to join a religion that at least i could not fully explain even to myself much less someone else.
i agree sitting in a car beat banging on doors hands down.
but was it not crazy going door to door.

The part about sending sisters into drug/crime infected neighborhoods....about 20 years ago when I was getting fed up with all the hooey, they tried to get me into a group going into a part of the city that was a drug stronghold, and I refused. (This happened more than once). My husband stood by me and they condescended and allowed me to go with a group in a residential "safe" neighborhood. One little self-righteous sister after that always made sure to make pointed comments about being impartial and giving everyone an opportunity to hear.... I let her know that someone other than me could have the priviledge of giving the druggies an opportunity to live forever.

Some people like to blabber, some don't. I hated FS and it gave me panic attacks. I always felt like I was required to be rude...and the sarcastic "have a nice day" one.....augh......I seriously wish now I had never once had to knock on a door...but when you're a kid and that's all you know, well you are kinda stuck.
It's just an exercise in futility.

Thanks Sylvia...actually I think he is just amusing himself with the little man that visits. The poor dude is in his mid-eighties and has to get his time in by hook or by crook.... my hubbie was very vocal when we used to sit bored in KH's.... he actually commented at a WT when they decided to change the separation of the sheep from the goats something to the effect that it made no sense.... i remember wanting to crawl under my chair, but enough people were snickering and the conductor was this moron of a guy that hadn't a clue that what he was saying was 180 out.
hahhaah.....

Mental Disorders and family dysfunction in JW org
by babygirl30 inthis is solely about my family...how messed up they are and will probably be till lord knows when.. 1. dad is a controlling, emotionally abusive, non affectionate, narcsissist.
everything needs to be about him in some way shape or form.
no compassion whatsoever for people who do not 'worship' the ground he walks on...and that includes his own children.

babygirl....that is so so sad. Unfortunately the fear and guilt tactics that are drummed into the victims are a major cause of mental disorders. I was born and raised (3rd generation...without overlaps that is...) and my mother's family was so dysfunctional, there were two sisters, one of whom got disfellowshipped back in the 50's, and of course no one had a thing to do with her after that...then there's the really crazy one who never would speak to my mother or me for years on end. I wasn't allowed a relationship with my cousins and all every single one were in the "truth", up and up members. Forward in time, one cousin was dead of issues related to anorexia in her early 40's...my mother eventually developed paranoid schizophrenia, and i should have been on meds a whole lot sooner than i finally gave in and did it. I have a serious panic disorder and anxiety disorder which morphs into depression....controlled by meds that i will be on for life. the stress of fear of everything...the world, people, situations, etc. actually changes the brain chemistry, and sadly enough it is irreversible.
So, my point is, you are in a far, far better place now and yes, the religion is bloodguilty of causing so much mental anguish, it is just ridiculous. But then, if you have uneducated men who have no idea of the psychology of the human mind giving advice in critical situations, that is a recipe for disaster. The scare tactics, the perpetual reinforcment of guilt all make for mental illness. Sadly enough, I think the type of person that is attracted to this religion is a type that needs a group to function. They tend to be lemmings and don't have the self-confidence to reason logically and come to their own conclusions. they are dependent on the group for validation....and that dependence only spirals downward.
You take care of that beautiful brain of yours!

Is Jehovah Telling the Governing Body to Shut Down?
by metatron inis the governing body haunted by the thought that jehovah is telling them no and shut down?.
rutherford is reported to have sought cash and rationed coal as a test of jehovah's will.
knorr reported on getting an unexpected windfall of cash when they sought to buy the towers hotel.. but from where i sit, jehovah seems to have become very ungenerous towards these would-be theocrats, in recent years.. they dumped subscriptions.. they cut literature.. they went to paperbacks.. they cut magazines, by my count, for the third time.. they laid off bethelites.. they sold off brooklyn buildings.. they sold off printing/binding equipment.. so, now their latest 'litmus test' of jehovah's will is to simply dump the magazines in one lump and tell people to only take what they need.

They are stuck in the past. Business is an ever-changing environment and to stay afloat, a lot of sophistication, creativity and innovation is required. The old boys simply do not have it. The only thing that they have as a plus is that hefty legal department. Knorr was a businessman who knew how to manipulate a large corporation...but he left no real successors. Plus, the timeframe in which he reigned supreme, business was a hierarchical structure. Today's trend toward boundaryless and transparent organizations is simply not something they have any comprehension of. As far as celestial wallets, that is just plain absurd.
