they are new to the congregation since i left in 2002/3.. they were offering a dvd for deaf people to 'learn what god requires of me".
i said there were no deaf people here.. the other guy that was just standing there asked if there were deaf people in this area.

Service on holidays= unannounced visitors
by Honeybucket inits thanksgiving- that means all those who went out in service today come over to harrass those who are "spiritually weak".. 2 car groups have already stopped by, plus they said the co is going to stop by this afternoon.... they first off, dont call before they stop by and then they bring the whole car group in.. i have gotten texts from witnesses hoping to see me at meeting tonight since the co is in town.. why dont they just do some door-to-door?
if you dont want to do that on a holiday, dont go out in service!.
dont come and bug me because you dont want to knock on doors of "wordly" people.. witnesses feel they have the right to intrude in your life at anytime.

options: hear the knock on door or bell.....go to door....do not open it.....and announce "NOBODY HOME". walk away and see how long it takes them to get the message. warning - be prepared for some more door banging, depending on how hell-bent they are at getting at you...............
option: open door an inch or so, smile sweetly and say in your most sugary voice "I'm so sorry - I don't have any time for idle chit-chat today." Close door.
option: ignore the banging at the door......swear silently all the invectives that make you feel at peace, and know that they'll disappear in a bit.....

for example.... already there are reported over a half million serving as witnesses in the newborn land with the new world society.

Refried - I remember that SO clearly....that and the bloodguilt ..... foisted on a kid, no wonder i grew up with serious anxiety and panic issues. Exacerbated by the fact that by nature I was/am non-confrontational and like to keep peaceful relations with all.... that was absolutely the deal...you preach and eventually the message will change as per jeremiah from irenic to polemic....and the polemic means that you will be going around telling people that they are about to be violently killed - but you, because of your bravery and martyrdom will survive!!!!!!!!

RefriedTruth - that 90's alteration was a real eye-opener to us as well. I remember my hubby making a comment in the WT that I was sure was going to get him d'fed....but apparently none of the brilliant minds caught what he really said. I like your point about the Mormons dropping Smith, or the Catholics Mother Mary.....it is true - the entire dogma was based solely on that one 1914 determination.....

I Thing Being Friends With My Jehovah Witness Friend is Taking A Mental Toll On Me?

i didn't notice it before but now i noticed the next day she began to give me verses about the "truth".
it recently got worse with her religious debates lately i've been able to prove her wrong with most of them.

i am getting a sense that this person really cares and needs you...you represent an escape hatch....the fact that she kept her religious situation under cover for a period of time, while confiding in you tells me she needs an objective and caring friend. be there for her....and just be real, with no religious entanglements hanging over your head. ie...forget religion and just be a geniune caring friend......:) best to the both of you!

Old time JW's did some very devout JW's refuse to eat pizza with pepperroni because they believed "blood" was in the pepperroni?
by booker-t ini have never heard this before until i read a life story of an ex-jws and how some jws in the past refused to eat pepperoni pizza because they thought blood was in pepperoni.
i do know some elderly jw sisters would complain about eating steak if it bled while cooking.
has anybody else heard of this pizza nonsense?.

Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses Celebrate Thanksgiving?

being a brit living abroad, i never really understood the whole thanksgiving business.. i think growing up as a jw didn't help either.
anyway, i've rid myself of those jw shackles and have decided to take an interest into the goings on over the pond, especially as my favourite place on earth is bar harbor.

it has political connections - it was made a national holiday - so observing it makes you a part of a political scheme of the devil's doing. plus - "we are thankful EVERYday for all of Jehovah's provisions" - again assuming that the rest of humanity has no sense of gratitude for what they eat, wear, have or do....
some go so far as to insist that no one visit eachother despite having time off from work...because a neighbor might see your car in someone's driveway and assume you are eating turkey and watching football. then there are those zealots who won't roast even a chicken on that day - the poultry relationship apparently is just too close for comfort.
Bar HArbor - in fact the entire coast of Maine is fabulous!!! but summers are way too short up there.
