Right on, Cheeze. Let's do this. Right after I finish drinking.

Holy Cow! A Mr. Falcon post! (persecution obsession)
by Mr. Falcon inyup.
let's begin.. i went to the kingdom hall yesterday for the first time in awhile.
the public talk was something like "trust in jehovah" and the speaker (whom i know personally and is a tad "off") was rambling on about the persecution that we are going to face imminently.

Most of us know there wasn't much feeling of accomplishment in going to meetings and door to door. So if persecution arrives on them, they feel closer to God I quess. To be feeling closer to God is their goal so then persecution becomes a welcome situation.

JWs are not unique in the need to feel persecution. How many times have christian groups in the U.S. tried to call themselves an 'oppressed minority'? What about all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the 'War on Christmas' by those awful secularists? Just a couple of readily available examples.
Christianity, in many of its delicious flavors, comes with a built-in need for persecution in order to be validated:
Matt. 5:10
John 15:18-20
2 Tim. 3:12
...and many others.

I thought that PZ Myers had scoffed at this article once, and I was right:

The more public ridicule that they open themselves up to, the better.

I want to repeat this personal experience
by cptkirk inno need to go into details (if you want details then i'll give more) but just for the sake of brevity, i will state it succinctly.
i just want to also note, this is not even one of crazier things i've seen with these people.
i was at a meeting for field service ok...you know how they will have one guy take the group out, and he will ask questions about presentations and things like that right?

Seriously though, Cheezits is an raging a-hole.
That he is, and a damn handsome one at that.
That threat was pretty sweet, circling around and around and then BAM! You've been threatened!

Hey Falcon,
Did you ever hear conversations like the one I used to hear incessantly while in service with older pioneer sisters? The one where they would obsess over whether or not our persecution would include the entire congregation all together in some sort of holding cell and naked?
Someone please tell me it wasn't just my congregation...
Hard to stay on topic in this place, isn't it?

Hey Falcon.
Yes. The euphoric rush of anticipation and anxiety when contemplating such a nightmare scenario is a powerful motivator. And the perception of persecution, even of impending or future persecution, is a good source of confirmation bias for the believer.

I am close to a transgendered individual whose parents' reaction has been quite the opposite of yours, chickpea. I wish for all their sakes that they could experience the kind of unconditional love and support that you show. You are a blessing in the life of your son.

Is There A Nice Way To Say, 'It's Dying?'?
by metatron ini got into one of those extended conversations with relatives i haven't spoken to in ages.
it was full of things unsaid and careful avoidance of saying too much about the organization.
lots of nice social hypocrisy, so nobody gets upset in the fairy-tale world of watchtower-ism.. is there any discreet, tactful, inoffensive way to tell them, "the organization is dying"?

"The ancient Isrealites just HAD to have something they could see, even though Jehovah is invisible. Remember the golden calf that they even named Jehovah?"
Awesome.
