  details are still unclear, but it seems that one or both of the groups of arabs arrested today at laguardia and jfk were using tickets for cross country flights to lax which had been cancelled tuesday morning after the airlines had been notified of the hijackings.. looks like there were two additional planes that were to be hijacked/crashed.

  Brits: 90% Say Go In With Yanks.

  i thought you folk in the states might like to know how things stand this side of the pond.. sky news interactive showed that 90% of those polled thought that the uk should join with the us military in attacks on countries harbouring terrorists.. the the entrance to the us embassy in london is stacked high with flowers and tributes, the fdr statue in particular has also been similarly honoured.. flags all around the country are at half-mast.. the queen ordered that the daily changing of the guard ceremony at buckingham palace should feature the usa national anthem, this has never happened before at such a nationalistic event.. the famous last night of the proms at the albert hall and hyde park has been restructured to honour the american dead.. it is know that several hundred brits were in the trade centre at the time of the attack.. i just wanted you people to know that your country is by no means on its own in this crisis.

  Appropriate Memorial

  in view of todays tragedy, i sincerely hope that all remaining wtc buildings are destroyed, and a memorial placed on the spot.

  i think it would be appropriate, and this is something i sincerely hope none of us forget.

  no matter what race, religion, or color of the victims, my heart goes out to all families who lost loved ones.

  it occurs to me that if we're using this tragedy as an opportunity to support our views, maybe we're no better than jws are when they play on people's fears in the preaching work.

  Maybe you are right. I do feel if other religious people have the right to tell me to pray to god to help, I have the right to tell them god does not care. But, you are right, I will give it a break.

  What I heard the JW's say in light of this tragedy

  okay, i know (or want to believe) that not all jehovah's witnesses are this calloused.

  at least i hope not.

  there are some good, caring people, but here are some stark contrasts i've observed today that remind me of how glad i am that i'm not part of such an overall unloving group of people.

  whether you believe in god or not, i hope you will join the peace-loving people of the world in memorial or prayer for the families and the ones lost in this tragedy.

  there are likely to be some equally or surpassing brutal retaliation in the days and months ahead.

  many more innocents are probably going to die....... after the idiots in the arab countries stop partying i hope they start thinking about just how they are now bona-fide targets.

  where i live there have been calls for massive prayer meetings for all the victims of the terrorist attack.

  my question would be, if god is so great and loving why didn't he stop the damn planes to begin with?????.

  if the supposed great all powerful being had the power to stop something such as this and just let it all happen, the what fool would think he is going to give a rat's ass about the victims after the fact.. if there is a power who takes action in behalf of the victims, i hope they stomp a mud hole in the ass of those who caused this to happen and when they are finished do a little stomping on god for doing nothing.

  I wish God cared enough to save those people too. To think of those people aboard those airplaines and in the towers knowing they were about to die, just makes me sick. Hey God, whoever you are, why don't you care?

  i saw redhorsewoman's thread title, "the time is at hand", and knew why she picked it: because the society uses that phrase all the time (or used to when i was in, anyway... i'm betting they still do).

  it reminded me of a district assembly part from along about 1983 called "now is the time" (can any of you brighter types guess which song they chose to accompany it?).

  this got me to thinking of how the society has these pet phrases they use over and over again, often featuring them in some thinly reworked format (like going from "now is the time" to "the time is at hand") as article titles.
