JWs: An Aversion to ``Conversion?"
by Room 215 inthis is particularly addressed to those of you long-timers.
it seems that the society has always deliberately avoided the use of the word `conversion"" and ``convert(s)'' in its literature.
yet it's clearly a scriptural term and would seem to fit their aggressive prosyletizing mentality quite well.. any ideas what it is that they find objectionable?

this comes from the branch in canada....... in england one of our blind brothers had a seeing-eye dog that would.
faithfully guide and take him to the meetings each week.

Did anyone ever hear the one about a lady that named her ferocious dog Jehovah? When witnesses went calling at her home, she yelled to Jehovah (the dog) to "kill"! The dog turned on her and killed her instead of the witnesses? Very nice.
I think an urban legend book would be FABULOUS!!!!! There are a few great writers on this site... what say ye??? : )

Added thought: It's a possibility that when he starts making toned-down music, his audience (hence cash flow) will dry up and he'll bag the JW deal and get back to where he belongs! His earlier albums are fantastic! (IF you like his style, that is).

Hey Tera! I am IN LOVE with Prince, too! I saw Purple Rain about 15 times!!! (The guy at the ticket counter thought I was wierd!!!) : )
I know a few "brothers" on the fringes of the music biz and they definitely confirm that he's re-married to a JW and baptized. He was divorced from his first wife a while back after their infant son died. I always wanted to meet him!!! I tell people he appeals to my "dark" side :) (evil grin)... NOW what am I gonna do?!?!?!? I hope his dark side is only in hiding for awhile!!! (Darn that Larry Graham!!!) Jbean

HenryP: I did not comment to make fun of JW's... I am STILL a JW although inactive. What I was commenting on was the sheer inappropriateness of much of what is given from the platforms, either at assemblies or local Kingdom Halls.
Don't even BEGIN to tell me that the brothers don't give these examples when they fit their needs. I was born and raised a JW and from as far back as I can remember I've always heard.... "now, if so&so was doing this & such instead of WORLDLY things... it would've gone much better for them..." This sad experience with this young kid just brought this thought of how it would never be used at a convention to mind.
