For me, it was finally getting up the courage to look up the "apostate" material online...an hour later and I was done with the whole thing.

What Actually Helped You Leave The Organization?
by minimus inafter seeing some threads about how some think that being direct (like danny hazzard) is the best way to get people out of "the truth" or being very subtle is most effective----i was wondering what exactly made you leave the organization??.
were you more impressed by websites that were informational?
what really got you thinking to leave the religion and its mindset?.

If you are living with a partner, is it a marriage?
by Quillsky inthe definitions of partnerships are shifting.
indeed, they are different around the world.. the law doesn't always protect good partnerships that aren't on paper, and sometimes the law protects truly bad partnerships that are on paper.
the bible or church doesn't really have a definition of what a lawful "marriage" is.. i propose this..... if you set up home with a partner, you are "wed".

I agree with you, OP. I'm living with my partner (unmarried).

I'm new and wanted to introduce myself
by MarkedFragile inhello everyone.. i'm new to this forum.
i left the organization several months ago, and am on a new path now.
though i didn't grow up in the organization, i have basically lived a life of pretending to be something i'm not, sheltering my feelings from everyone, and not feeling "enough" to anyone.

It's a Tuesday night, so I'll probably be getting off work about an hour before it starts, then I'll head home, cook dinner, and my boyfriend and I will eat and probably play video games or watch a movie. Sounds much more exciting :)

Aposta-men, Do You Know How to Sew?
by White Dove inthe men in the coven i was in knew how to use a sewing machine quite well.
it was required for first degree work that everyone make a ritual garment.
some covens in the assembly had to make their own tabards, too.

Have you ever heard of a BS who just wanted a wife?
by highdose ini've seen this happen no less than 5 times.
a lonely person, always a man is contacted, starts a bible study and starts attending meetings just to get a wife.
none of them stayed once they realised the sisters where stuck up weridos.. am i alone in having seen this?
-
ILTSF
Yup, I've seen it happen.
OTOH, I've also seen someone pulled away from the baptismal talk at the DC to be accused, by an elder, of only wanting to get baptized so that he could get with the sister that originally contacted him. That wasn't his intention at all. He left a few months later, that experience put a bad taste in his mouth, among other things that happened.

I'm going poo-less
by rebel8 inno, this is not my annual march colon cancer awareness thread!*.
a certain poo-less poster here has inspired me to stop using shampoo.. according to various hippie types, shampoo forces your scalp to produce extra oils and it takes a while to adjust.
sudsing detergents are bad for the environment too.. plus they have carcinogens and flying spaghetti monster knows i don't need any more of those.. so....have you gone poo-less?.

I have "no-poo"ed before...it makes your hair so nice! Beware, though, that in the first couple of weeks your hair will go through a "detox" where you might freak out and think that it's making your hair awful...just work through it, and things WILL change. Best of luck! I'm probably going to start up again when my bottle of shampoo runs out.

dan browns the lost symbol , i was told to read it !
by looloo inan old friend who knew i had always been "searching for truth" told me to read chapter 111 if nothing else , i did , and i dont know if im more scared than when i was in the cult or feel better for reading it (the latter, i think ) he said i should read the davinci code ,angels and demons , then the lost symbol but i feel guilty for reading stuff like that (you can take the girl out the truth but not the truth out the girl ) has anyone else read these books or knows about chapter 111 when it talks of revalation in the bible ?.

I've watched the movies, but haven't read the books...go for it, though! If you don't like them, that's fine...I've stopped reading a lot of books because they didn't interest me. But don't let the fear stop you from not even starting them.
