About twice a week, it seems like. The road I live on is very busy, particularly at rush hour. There is ALWAYS somebody tailgating, a couple of times a week somebody runs a light as it changes. A couple of weeks ago there was a girl on my back bumper who looked like she was tweaking. That one really bothered me because I had the granddaughter with me. Some of these are more worrisome than others. I work really hard at payin attention to what's going on around me.

Ever Have A Close Call?
by rocketman inyesterday i had a close call on the road - an out-of-control pickup truck veered into my lane, spinning as it approached and crashed into a pole about 50 feet in front of my car.
this is the second close encounter i've had, (both involving someone driving a pickup truck).
in this case, a couple of seconds made a huge difference, since i may have been directly hit had i just been a bit further along in my drive.. i would imagine that once a few days pass, i'll give less and less thought to the incident and i doubt it will precipitate major changes in my life or outlook (which i generally think is pretty healthy).

Blondie, I remember the Jezebel drama. A friend of ours played Jezebel and had a riot vamping for the role. The whole audience laughed and applauded several times.
I would never have been sucked into today's Watchtower Society. A major attraction for me was the sense of community. How can you have a community when the beat down anything that remotely looks like fun?

Question about convention speaker procedure
by JeffT inso i know they have someone monitoring everything that gets said from the platform.
what happens if the speaker gets way off script?
for example, one of our fading elders decides to just start saying what he knows.

So I know they have someone monitoring everything that gets said from the platform. What happens if the speaker gets way off script? For example, one of our fading elders decides to just start saying what he knows. Do they shut off the mic and send a couple of brothers to haul him off the stage? It could be a real problem for them.
Thanks for anything you can help me with on this. I'm thinking of rewriting a scene in one of my books.

New Magazine says birthdays will kill you
by RayPublisher innew july 2013 awake says this on page 3:.
"there is a 14 percent greater probability that a person over 60 years of age will die on his birthday rather than on other days.".
wow, they have now proven that birthdays are pagan and not fit for christians!.
-
JeffT
So the odds that you're going to die on any given day of the year are about 1 in 365. A fourteen percent increase makes that about 1 in 310. I'm surprised this even shows up statistically. Of course they don't reference the article.

Doug, they're making it up as they go. I don't think they've thought about unintended consequences. They just spew stuff out, safe in the knowledge that most of the R&F will just accept whatever they say. I'm becoming convinced they don't care what anybody else thinks, its all aimed at an internal audience.

Terry, I hear you about old people. I just turned 62 and I don't remotely feel old. However, I have to catch myself from time to time when I start going off about how things used to be.

WT Society Changes Definitions of Words to Control JW's for Their Agenda
by flipper inmy wife and i were discussing this and thought of a few examples of words that the wt society changes meanings on in order to accomplish their own self serving agenda .
the term - generation - definition in webster's new world dictionary : " generation - a single stage or degree in the succession of natural descent ( father, son, and grandson are three generations ) .
the average period ( about thirty years ) between the birth of one generation and that of the next .

False Prophecy: A predicition that did not come true. The WTBS does not make false prophetic statements, sometimes the Brothers* read more too much into what was said.
False Prophet: some one who issues false prophecies in the name of God. The WTBS is not a false prophet because they don't make predicitons in the name of God, they just speak for Him and you have to follow everything they say to the letter because if they said it, it came from God. But they're not prophets. Really.
*Brothers: includes women when used by the WTBS, unless the statement involves authority to actually do something, in which case it doesn't.

Yes, you did. I get virtually all of my information (and the only part I give any credence to) from printed material of one sort or another. I watch news on TV for the pictures, if any. I get tired of certain parties on this board making assumptions about how people they disagree with obtain there information. I read Terry's post as a comparison of what he recalls from day's gone by, with what he sees now. (which happens to match my perceptions). I found the comment that he should go read a book condesending and disrespectful.
