I went to a mainstream Christian church for a number of years after leaving the WTBS. Their primary doctrines fit on a piece of paper the size of a postcard and are things generally recognized by almost all mainstream denominations. The rest of it is regarded as open to interpretation and discussion. As said above, if it ain't broke, you don't need to fix it.

New Light - Good for goose... gander SOL
by Zoos inwhen jws accept new light they must, by default, accept that what they were teaching was false.
they allow themselves the luxury of error so long as it is in the pursuit of better understanding.. .
you would think this scenario demands that allowance be made for other religions with false teachings, but alas, no.

Baptisms only at regional ( district ) assemblies from 2014 / 15 service year?
by dozy injust a rumour but i guess it makes sense - i've a friend on a circuit committee ( he knows it's not "the truth" but for family & work reasons he stays in ) & he says that the wtbts have told them not to book a swimming pool for next years one day assemblies as the plan is to have only one baptism a year at the main regional ( what they used to call "district" ) convention.. with the drop off in baptisms so that sometimes there isn't anyone baptised or just a handful , i guess this is inevitable.
i remember going to a baptism a few years ago - we had hired a municipal 25 metre swimming pool and only one person ( a rather confused and scared middle aged lady who hadn't been in a swimming pool since her youth ) was being baptised - it was all something of a farce with the "worldly" staff looking on very puzzled at such an elaborate & expensive ceremony for one person.
) also with both assemblies being one day with just short morning & afternoon sessions , i suppose it is sensible to ditch the baptism talk - it tends to be something of a snoozefest anyway at the end of the morning session.

The early christians seemed to use any body of water for baptism at any time a person wanted to be baptised.
For a number of years my wife and I attended an independent evangelical church. I spent some time working on their outreach program. We worked an hour or so on Tuesday evenings contacting people who filled out an interest card the previous Sunday. One night one of the teams came back in with a fellow that wanted to be baptized, so we all went down to the baptismal pool and watched him get dunked. The previous Sunday was his first time in the church, he did not have to wait for anything, answer questions, meet with elders etc. He said he wanted it so we did it.

Atheists, here is a 'balls' question ---even for all---
by prologos init is very difficult to knock a ball into a hole (like golf), throw it into a receiver's hands (american football) intercept it and knock it over the fence (american cricket).
or to put a sattelite at the right time at the right speed in the right direction in the right place to have it orbit another body, so :.
what ingenious natural & process is it, than can get 9+ zillions bodies to get into the right orbit simultaniously or sequentially and have them remain there for billions of years?

do your research before engaging your tongue.
You might find it educational to take your own advice. You clearly don't understand astronomy, orbital mechanics, gravity, Newton's laws of Motion, and the scientific method generally.
In answer to your question about baseball, the trajectory of a baseball follows the same laws of physics as any other moving object and ends up hitting precisiely where the batter sent it - which may not be where he intended to send it.

RBC accident report paperwork on jwleaks? why does it matter if elder
by ?me? inon one of the recent boe letters, they sent a rbc form to document any accidents on the jobsite.
there is a portion to check if the injured person was an elder, pioneer, ms, etc.... .
why does this matter?

I wouldn't make too much of it. I've done a lot of HR work over the years and this more or less like similar forms I've used at private businesses. A lot of this is probably driven by OSHA regs and various Labor and Industries rules. An injured person's position in a company may be relevant to an accident (please explain why the accountant was was on the roof). In this case they're just collecting some information about the person's position in the org.
As far as having safety people on site, that makes sense. If the building inspector comes by you need to be able to point to the person that is making sure safety regs are being followed. That person may not have to do much more than check a box that says everybody is wearing their hard hat, or the guys on the roof are roped off.

jeff: so why does it not work with the amercan criquet game too? or does the ball hit the bin, the pin only every billion years or so? the lucky shot?
even the 3 body problem takes a lot of computing power.
First, what the hell is "American Criquet?"
Secondly, the three bodies follow the laws of Gravity and Motion, they just do it in ways that are hard to resolve mathmatically.

Where are the scriptures to back up the highlighted assertions?
by Brainfloss in9 through his son, jehovah established an arrangement here on earth that works in harmony with the invisible part of the organization.
why is a visible arrangement needed to accomplish the work described at matthew 24:14?
consider three reasons.. 10 first, jesus stated that this preaching work would take his disciples to the most distant part of the earth.
-
JeffT
The backup for those assertions is found in the Watchtower magazine, which is the same thing as scripture. We know that because the magazine tells us so. Now stop questioning Jehovah and go sell more magazines!

Are you as critical of higher education and science as you are of religion?
by EndofMysteries ini am beginning to see a complete unbalanced shift from one end of the spectrum to the other.
i'll use jw's as the example but this would apply to any religion and any person.
if you just accepted the jw teachings unquestionably from the governing body because you felt they were the highest authority on the matter and 'trusted' them before waking up to ttatt you may shift to the other end of the spectrum.

Im sorry to say that none will come to you knocking on the door saying that I have taken some evidence with me and I want to show them for you.
The fact is that these evidences are located, in laboratories, Museums, amongs text schoolars, who have spent many years studuing coneiform, clay plates, hieroglyfs from ancient egypt. Museums all over the world its full of them, in Bagdad, in Cairo, London, Paris. The next thing you must do is start to learn some of these technics, languages. This is a very time consuming effort. Or you can just trust that 99% of the professors, textcrackers, scientific world are very honest, and eager to expose enyone of them if they cheat.
You know, almost all of this is available over the internet. No, it won't come knocking at your door, but it isn't hard to find if you want to verify something. You don't have to accept something just because a bunch of scientist say so, but you better have some actual facts to back up your position, and you are always free to ask questions and do research.
Remember, honest scientists will tell you there is no such thing as "settled science." What science provides is the best explanation for a set of facts available at the current time. ALL scientific findings are subject to scrutiny, some have withstood the testing better than others. Any scientific finding can be overturned at any time.

Russian Parliament Approves Military Action in the Crimea
by ABibleStudent inwhy did russian president vladimir putin ask the russian parliament to approve using military forces to keep the peace in the crimea, instead of asking the un?
why did the russian parliment pass a law approving military force instead of asking for the un to send peace keeping forces to the crimea (http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/01/world/europe/ukraine-politics/index.html?hpt=hp_t1)?.
is russia spiralling into a totalitarian dictatorship like germany in the 1930's and the soviet union from 1920's - 1990's with information control and coercive tactics?

I would be astounded if the UN can do anything. Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, they will veto in action.
