I'd rather cull all of the politicians first and see what result that produces. We wouldn't have to kill them, just make them get jobs outside the public sector for a few years.

Controversial essay- cull 20% of the poor.
by fulltimestudent ina controversial essay is part of aussie news today.. the essence of it is that the state needs to kill about 20% of the poorest in the community, to fix its financial problems.
it is, of course, claimed to be 'tongue-in-cheek,' but is there a sound basis to the concept?
i sound very right-wing in saying that, but i live opposite a boarding house that is full of people who, i guess, would be prime candidates for the cull.

The FDA has been trying to keep it quiet and retesting takes time.
They didn't do a very good job. That report was on CBS. Is there any actual evidence of a problem with the drugs?

U.S. Chronic Pain Patients -- No More Pain Meds
by Lady Lee inthe american pain foundation has closed its doors due to lack of funding and a growing hostile environment towards those who suffer with chronic pain.. with deep regret and heavy hearts, we sadly inform you that due to irreparable economic circumstances, apf must cease to exist, effective immediately.
on may 3, 2012, the board of directors formally voted to dissolve the organization.. the board and staff have worked tirelessly over many months to address a significant gap between available financial resources and funds needed to remain operational.
unfortunately, the economic situation has not changed in any meaningful way, despite our best efforts.. apf hopes to be able to transfer content from various information, education, and support programs to other organizations so that you may continue to benefit from the value these programs have provided to thousands of individuals and families across the country.. your personal experiences in living with pain and seeking compassion, empathy and medical care often against the odds -- have driven our efforts over these many years.

I'm conflicted about this. I understand that people want to make the pain stop. On the other hand, when I was in rehab seven years ago at least 50% of the people in there had been abusing perscription drugs. Based on what I see at AA meetings, that percentage is likely going up.
Lisa, and others, I understand your frustration, but all those controls are in place because addicts game the system every way they can.
The FDA gets put between a rock and a hard place on issues like this. Large groups of people castigate them for allowing dangerous drugs (or drugs that are perceived as dangerous) on the market. Other large groups of people castigate them for holding up marketing of beneficial drugs, or drugs that are perceived as beneficial. It's a no-win deal.

AAWA has caused divisions and has lost the opportunity to be effective
by NoRegrets inhere's the thing,.
the whole aawa idea had noble ideas behind it, but the ship has sailed and the movement needs to go back to the drawing board.
period.

Anybody who thinks they know how to do it better than AAWA is free to start their own organization. I'm a semi-retired accountant. I may be able to help. I guess now all I have to do is get out of the way of all the people beating down my door to start their own organizations to illuminate the problems with the WTBS.

Jehovah's Witnesses and informed consent
by JeffT ininformed consent is a common phrase in medicine and related law.
the term means a patient knows all relevant facts and is mentally capable of making decisions about his or her care.
(see wikipedia.com informed consent).

FYI, I'm not speaking in strictly legal terms. I agree that adult JW's can make any decision they want in the legal sense.
I do not believe that JW's, in a moral and personal sense, are capable of rational thought on this and many other matters. And blame for this rests squarely with the WTBS which is filling their heads with crap to such an extent that they can not think about it clearly.

“Informed consent” is a common phrase in medicine and related law. The term means a patient knows all relevant facts and is mentally capable of making decisions about his or her care. (see Wikipedia.com “Informed Consent”)
This article examines informed consent in a religious context. When Jehovah’s Witnesses, decide matters of finances, education, medical treatment, or even whether to join the religion; do they have all the information they need to make that decision? Do they have the clear mental facilities needed to decide?
I will submit that they do not.
The rest of the article is up on my blog. http://pathologicallyintellectual.blogspot.com/

Mom who regrets ever having her two kids
by skeeter1 inthe mother who says having these two children is the biggest regret of her lifeisabella dutton, 57, says she wishes she had remained childless'i resented the time my children consumed.
like parasites, they took from me and didn't give back'.
isabella dutton would have been happier not having children.

She lost me at about the second paragraph. I rather expect her children regret having her for a mother. Perhaps she can turn it around before she dies alone.
I'm mostly occupying my approach to retirement by taking care of my mother. I don't regret a single second of it. Nor do I regret one moment spent with my children or now the eight year old granddaugher who lives with us.

Found myself behind a minivan full of people all dressed up for something. They were going about 25 in a 45 zone. I wonder if they were doing return visits or something. They weren't looking for an address because they drove about a mile down the road and got on the freeway.
