Office Jargon, drives me nuts
by punkofnice in'granular' seems to be the latest buzz word going around my office.
previously it was 'appetite'.. abstract words that appear to be designed to make the person saying it appear powerful and part of the 'team'.. as lord sugar has observed before; why not just speak english and say what you mean.. office jargon really annoys me.
i had enough loaded language and jargon in the disgusting jw cult..

Most Poorly Written JW Book
by JW_Rogue inso i was thinking the other day that the wt corp has produced thousands of books over the years.
although the writers have changed the style is almost always the same.
however, some books are just worse than others.

I have not seen any of the recent literature, it all sounds awful.
The books about Revelation and Daniel offered up all sorts of speculative interpretation with no evidence to indicate why this was so.
I remember studying the "Eternal Purpose" book shortly after I was baptized. It quickly disappeared after 1975, probably because of references to that year, and the fact that it was so poorly written.

Very important, you must save JWs from dieing at Armageddon!
by Crazyguy inevery drop of breast milk has roughly 1 million white blood cells in it.
so the next time you see a jw drink milk or eating milk with his cereal etc.
you must run over and take it out of his/her hands and then give them a stern warning.

Crazyguy, I was comparing the claimed numbers of cells in milk, with the number in blood. If (questions on this addressed below) the cited numbers are correct the JW's shouldn't be drinking milk of any kind.
Re cells in milk: as noted above, there is a lot of nonsense going around about the dangers of milk. I don't feel like wading through it all to find the real numbers. But if there is ANY significant number, JW's should abstain from milk as well as blood if they're going to be consistent.

Even the Overlapping Generations isn't an original concept
by paradisebeauty into my surprise, i found this: .
the overlapping generations model is an economic model .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/overlapping_generations_model.
if those people from wt are inspired, why can't they at least come up with something original .....

1914 + 80 years (70 or 80 years if you are mighty) was why it was not an issue until 1995.
Funny, sometime around 1975 I said that the system might go on until 1994, if that scripture was a guide. I was told that it couldn't possibly go on that long.

I guess JW's will have to stop drinking milk. I'm surprised no one (including me) ever thought of this before. Human blood contains about 4,000-10,000 white cells per milliliter. -

Any William Miller Scholars out there?
by neverendingjourney infor those who may not be aware, the 1914 date was arrived at by russell by using the same framework of the failed prophetic interpretations of the adventist preacher william miller.
see this chart:.
if you look at the top right of the chart, he uses the same 7-times reasoning to arrive at the 2,520 years (7 times=7 multiplied by 360-day years=2,520 years).

Miller moved his end date from 1843 to 1844 for the same reason that many Watchtower dates have been moved around: he got to the first date and nothing happened. -

I'm under the impression the dam is part of an environmental mitigation issue. I'll have to see if I can see where I found that. -

Somewhere along the line I estimated that if it was a private project it would cost 350-500 million. I have no idea how much (if any) they save using volunteer labor. I suspect that aren't really saving very much. Using volunteers tends to be inefficient, and there have been rumors of stuff needing to be done over.
Without reading the documents I can't tell you what the performance bond covers. I might try to take a look and see if they are available on line. My guess is that they have to do with utility connections and the like. When the project is done, they bond will be released. That 30 million dollars doesn't really have much to do with the total cost of the project.

Assembly Hall selling HVAC machines
by StarTrekAngel innot going to disclose a whole lot of details because it will implicate someone else without their consent.
someone very close to me, who is a non-baptized publisher (for almost 3 years now), went to work to the local assembly hall.
recently, they removed the existing hvac machines and replaced them with new ones.

If those things have mold in them, they are a huge liability. I presume that several thousand people go through that building. If there is mold, every one of those people is a potential lawsuit.
And they may well have to do it again if they don't maintain the system properly.

Why the Governing Body caught a frightful fright
by Saintbertholdt init has been extensively reported on the forum that there has been a marked increase in effort over the past two years by the governing body of jehovah's witnesses to encourage an increase in monetary donations.
this has also been accompanied by the stripping of financial capital from the local congregations.
as has also been reported on this forum, this has in all probability been done to facilitate the financing of the vast new hq building project as well as the financing of the shift from a publishing company to becoming an internet based charismatic multimedia company which produces lame pixar/disney animation knock offs while simultaneously parading the governing body's ever expanding waistlines, blingy accoutrements and stupid grins.. meanwhile the financials of the organization remains as murky as ever.

Wire rider, what you are describing is tax fraud, a federal felony. It is the one thing that will get the government involved in church affairs. Both New York and Pennsylvania require the submission of audited financial statements with the renewal of corporate registration. https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/nonprofit-audit-guide/state-law-audit-requirements
So far as I know, these submissions are not a public record, but no CPA is going to want to go to jail for lying about the WTBS' finances, which is what would happen to them. Google Enron and Arthur Anderson for an example.
