Quick question...
by Vidiot in...why the f**k do i so often see banner ads for "jehovah's witness dating" here?
.

I'm guessing the bot that posts the ads can't tell the difference between us and active JW's. -

The vast majority are scams.
Simon, this comment implies there is at least one that isn't a scam. I've never heard or seen such a beast. Do you have an example?
As an accountant, I've looked at lots of them. I've never seen one that isn't designed to fleece the sheep and transfer the proceeds to the people at the top.

Run away now. It's a multi-level marketing company based in Nigeria. They sell bottles of who knows what that will cure everything from allergies to cancer. -

I think they use the parable of the wheat and the weeds, as well.
In the Four Major Cults, Anthony Hoekema says this teaching is a common factor in all cults.

The two paths of exJWs
by Simon init's easy to think of exjws as being a single amorphous group but the more i think about it, the more i believe that there are two distinct sub-groups and wonder if you agree.. there are those who believe and those who don't.
i know that seems obvious but let's break it down a bit more.
there are those who don't and never believed and some who are looking for a religion to match their beliefs.. i used to think this split would be between born-ins and converts but of course it's possible for born-ins to be believers although i suspect that many, like with other faiths, do so simply because they have never experienced anything else or made a conscious choice.

Something about this thread nagged at me all day, and I finally figured it out. Not all of us go through all the stages of our lives at the same speed. Some may leave the Witnesses and immediately free themselves of all religion. Others may take longer, perhaps exploring other churches or religions before leaving it all behind. Some may never get there.
Fifteen years ago, I was still exploring other religions, trying to find one that fit me. For many years I attended an independent church and liked it. It was certainly more free and open than JW's. But things changed and I grew tired of it. Now I don't attend any church and don't feel a need to. I have my own spiritual beliefs, but feel no need to tell anybody else about them.
At the end of the day I don't like putting people in boxes. We're all individuals with all sorts of things going on to make us unique.

Contrary to what the Watchtower teaches, lots of Christians use Jehovah and variations on it frequently. We heard it often at the last church we attended. Jehovah-jireh (Jehovah provides) is not uncommon in some circles. A little google searching tells me this company is an international job source company. I couldn't find any connection with the WTBS. -

I'm still on my JWN holidays but had to pop back to share this experience.

my line manager introduces me to 'dave', within seconds my jw radar was on maximum!
in his mid to late 30's, politely spoken and with that haircut - i just knew it.. the post he'd applied for was saturdays only, he said he did a lot of volunteer work.

Very well played! Instead of being the evil apostate, you've set yourself up to be the friend that can help him navigate through unfamiliar waters. This may lead to something good. -

World War I started because Europe was a powder keg waiting to blow up. In retrospect, its a bit surprising it didn't start with the Balkan Wars in 1912 and 1913. If it had not started in 1914 something would have set it off in that time frame. Whatever happened they would have found a way to spin it as fulfillment of prophecy.
