Window Washers

i know @hiddenpimo is going to laugh at me for this because we had several in our old congregation, but what is with all the window washing businesses owned/managed by jws???

they are everywhere!

My first congregation was located in Pullman, WA. Pullman is a small college town, if you take away Washington State University, there's nothing there. Several brothers were trying to pioneer and make money as janitors/window washers. Because of the nature of the town the only way any of them could make more was to steal business from somebody else in the congregation. It frequently caused bitterness and divisions.

I have a BA from WSU in English, and a diploma in accounting from a private vocational school. I had a pretty good career as an accountant. I've made a grand total of $900 as a writer, although I hope to have a book out this fall. Who knows I might push my life time total from the English degree over the $1000 mark.

i think there is enough information available for a case to be made of the type of emotional and mental harm one is exposed to.

I smart lawyer would cite the fact that we're all here as proof that WTBS doesn't control people's minds. Those that don't like being part of the religion can, obviously, leave if they want to.

I have just watched the second episode of Chenobyl

as i said i have only seen two episodes so far and by what i have seen and what limited information i have with that and the japanese nuclear accident problem i know of i don`t want any nuclear reactors anywhere here on australian soil .. i think it has only been by pot luck that a disaster of major proportions has been avoided.. and that is not good enough .. we have had two warnings with chenobyl and japan ,what will the third one tell us ?.

i would appreciate your comments.

LV, I suspected that's what you did. I'd love to see The Hermitage, Years ago I took a class in Russian history (I minored in history). Fascinating place.

From stories I've heard from friends EVERY Aeroflot flight looks like its traveling between refugee camps (and may not make it to the next one.)

I do believe we must approach nuclear power with a clear head and a commitment to follow established procedure as in "don't turn the ****ing safety system off."

There are reasonable concerns, and reasonble responses to those concerns regarding the safety of nuclear power. If we are going to be serious about climate change we need nuclear power to bridge the gap until better systems are created. Either that or we can sit in the dark.

We have safe ways of disposing of the waste (glassification) and the volume of material involved is small compared to say, the chemical industry. Blondie, I've studied technology issues for a long time (even when I was a JW). I've never heard a serious proposal to send it into space.

The lesson of Chernobyl is "don't turn off the safety systems." The plant blew up because the guy in charge was an idiot - as well portrayed in the series.

LV101, I have no idea what you saw in 1981-1982. The Chernobyl event was in 1986.

I don't think anything is going to "take down the Watchtower." Most of it's adherents are ruled by cognitive dissonance. This quote has no effect on them, but it may be useful in making a few think, and it certainly shows those with no JW background what is wrong with the cult.

since i left the borg i've also though that the salvation through pinball meme was a good analogy for trying to sell enough watchtowers to win god's favor.

As pointed out above, speculation about the future wouldn't be so terrible if they kept it to speculation. But people read this (and with the encouragement of the WTBS) make life altering decisions based on it.

Smiddy, I don't expect to see the Watchtower go away anytime soon. They some how manage to pull a new rabbit out of their hat everytime the old one dies.

If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this
present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy
indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that
observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no
means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never
fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college

i had this article pop up about the darksilver case.

it says a federal magistrate in san francisco has now ruled that darksilver can remain anonymous but then it says except for identification to lawyers for the religion’s watchtower publication.

The issue is not whether or not DS has a right to speak anonymously. The question before the court is about limits on their ability to use some one else's words. I'm all in favor of fair use, as a writer I support copyright law. This will need to go to court for a decision.
