  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  It is not yet an official order to shelter in place, but we're getting close. The Governor is strongly encouraging it. My wife and I are both minimizing time out of the house (we did some yard work today and that's it). She's 68 and has an autoimmnue issue, I'll be 69 in two weeks so we're trying to take care. Fortunately my employer is being very supportive of staff that need to do this.

  That said, I'm going to be batshit crazy if this goes on too long. I'm editing a novel in preparation for self-publication and binge watching old war movies and science fiction. It's going to get old fast.

  The outbreak in Seattle did not start in the asian community. (I live in Woodinville, just northeast of Seattle). It took off in a nursing home and hospital, both only a long walk from my job. I don't know if they've identified the source, there could be a chinese connection, but I have not heard anything for sure.

  DOC Governor Inslee has been a pretty cool head through all of this. He's assembled a good scientific team to advise him. (In case you're wondering he's a Democrat, I'm a non-Trump Republican). He's done a good job so far.

  The 250 number is based largely on crowed control and keeping some space between people. There is some evidence that the possibility of transmission is lessend if you are more than six feet away from a person with the virus. I'm sure there was some consideration of the idea that if you banned everything, people would ignore the ban. Yes its arbitrary, but there's some thought behind it.

  The state of Washington just banned gatherings over 250 people in our three largest counties.

  Of interest to members of this board: the assembly hall for a good part of the state is in Pierce country - one of the areas covered by the Governor's order.

  The University of Washington has suspended classes March 9th - 20th. The private K-12 where my two older children teach, and granddaughter is a student is closing for at least a week. The K-12 is setting up to do remote classes over the internet. I expect more closure's will be announced in the next few days.

  I live in a Seattle suburb. Our local school district just announced they're closing for at least 14 days. The small private school where my two older children teach (and our grandaughter is a student) will be closed for a week.

  I did some shopping at Costco yesterday. The last of of the toilet paper went off the shelf just before I got to it. I saw people with carts that must have had 100 rolls of toilet paper in them. They other big one was cart loads of bottled water. Do they think the water is going to get shut off?

  Crazy. I think some social psychologist will write a great PhD thesis about all this.
